-Amplifier Remote Wire-
-Amplifier Remote Wire-
I mounted this amp behind the seat of my truck. If the truck sits with the amp on too long the battery goes dead.
It was getting to be a pain to reach back there and switch off the amp so I added a remote control wire. Now it operates exactly like my subwoofers. It all turns on and off with the ignition key.
I found the power switch wire inside the amplifier and put a relay in the circuit. (Just find out how much current flows through this wire and choose the rating of the relay contacts accordingly). In this case I used a 5amp relay from radio shack.
I cut the power switch wire inside my amp and soldered the ends to the normally open contacts of the relay.
This relay has a 12vdc coil. I soldered one side to ground. The other side of the coil goes to a wire outside the amp for controlling it.
Now if you put 12v to the remote wire it will turn the amplifier on just like most subwoofer amplifiers work.
This should be able to be done easily to most amps as long as you use the appropriate relay and wire it correctly.
Maybe this helps someone with an idea?

amp remote wire
I have had no problems at all. It works perfectly. This should be able to be done in most amps as long as there is enough room in there to mount a relay and you are able to break the power switch wire.
The only thing to get right is the relay. In my amp, the power switch carries very little current. You can tell by how little the wire is and how dinky the switch is. I figured a 5A relay would be more than enough. If you are not sure you can measure DC amps with most multimeters.
If for some reason your power switch wire carries more current, use a big enough relay thats all.

It depends how the wiring is. If the switches are part of the face like mine, just extend the wires using thermostat wire or rotator control wire or something.. I'm not sure if you would need to shield it or not. It might depend on the amp..
There is allways room for experiments. Thats how I learned the little bit I know.
