Ok.. I've been bitten by the bug

Have to admit it someday. Decided some months ago that my old radio needed to be replaced. Bought the 29, peaked and tuned.. bought new mic, new co-ax, new Antenna, new mounting stud, second stud mount, another new mic (this one cost $60 ) another new antenna... THEN A NEW RADIO....


I need to slow down lol. I had the opurtunity to talk some SSB with another member who is local to me. I thought it was awsome. Double the distance we talked over AM. It was great. Now that the mini life story is done.. here is my ???

I'm looking to utilize some of the surplus .. equipment I've purchased recently. I have 3 antennas 2 radios.. and I think 4-5 mics, some stock, some aftermarket.

In my truck I'm using

DX959
$60 cobra mic
FGT-5



This leaves the 29, firestick, and wil t2000 with the cheaper noise cancel cobra mic, and the stock galaxy and cobra mic.

In the near future I will purchase a actual BASE BASE radio with a lean towards SSB.

In the mean time I'd like to swap the radio from the truck to the house when I'm home. the 959. I'd also like to use the better of the two leftover antennas the t2000 and use it as my "base antenna" I'll eventually move the firestick to my jeep for local stuff.

Would the T2000 even be worth using on the roof??? If it was grounded and the whole nine yards???

I don't want to use the 29 as the base, I'd like to keep talking SSB more often.

Also, where would one find a cheap semi used power supply to use the radio indoors??? I know the shack has em.. and I'm sure some if not all of the sponsors do.. But my girlfriend has begun to notice a cache of CB items around the house and has added up much of the cost

the t 2000 on the roof would be a no go. it wouldn't be worth it. with all the work put into making it dial in on the swrs if i would you would be better off using a for real base antenna

I didn't think so either but thought/still think it may or may not work. Like you say.. sounds like more work for little return.

I've been looking for info on building my own base antenna.. and have found a few sites, but the directions are pretty vague for me. Any one have some detailed directions on making my own base antenna??

True, go with a base antenna, if your tight on money just buy an Antron 99, great antenna for the price, with shipping about 75 bucks or so.

As for the power supply, I have one up for sale currently, like NEW 10/10 cosmetic rating on a 7 amp power supply, will handle a stock base station or even if it's peak and tuned ... PM me for more info.....

true, by the time you buy/find all the parts, and making it, it is more effective to buy an anntron 99. you could build a groundplane, its the simplest, but it would not be as efficient as an antron. (i bet the anntron reaches 2x as far as the mobile !) 209
