PA Problems
Yesterday I got my PA installed on my pickup, and I thought there was something wrong with my CB because when I would flip the switch to PA mode it would play all the static and voices out the PA while I wasn't keyed, so I put in my dad's basically new Cobra 29LTD (mic plugs into the front) and it does the same thing, so I figure its a Cobra 29LTD thing? I just turn the RF gain all the way down when I go to use the PA so I don't get the noise.
Also, it gets a ton of feedback sometimes. I have the mic gain turned down to about half from the normal 3/4. And it's still bad. But it doesn't do it everywhere. What do you think it could be? And if i turn the mic gain down much more its just too quiet.

Yeah I used to have an external in my pickup so I know how to plug them in, and how they work. I just thought there was something wrong, because I thought it should be silent when I have it on PA mode. And the volume knob controls the loudness of the CB talking and static coming out the PA when in PA mode unkeyed, but when I key it the mic gain controls my voices volume.
Have you ever had the radio worked on or tuned? It's obviously not working like it should. Or maybe it is?? Your radio receive should not transfer to the pa speaker output in pa mode. They used to not do that. sounds like something is wired wrong or something. It could be a Cobra thing too. The radio in our squad truck at the fire dept. would broadcast the radio receive when the siren control was put in pa mode. but the pa mic was tied to the siren control box and interrupted the receive when the mic was keyed. it sounds like the pa circuit in your radio is tied to the receive side of the radio and puts it to the pa speaker until you key up for the local pa broadcast. hmmm, interesting.

My Uniden 76 has echo in it. I can turn it off by selecting pa. cb it's on, pa it's off. I doubt my pa circuit works now. I've never tried it since the echo went in years ago. But if your dads cobra does it too it must be a monitor the receive feature so you can list when you're out of the vehicle. That's a bit much I think. Wonder what Cobra was thinking? Out at the lake fishing having a nice peaceful time and you want to monitor the "Duke boys" tearing up the country side running from Roscoe?

Ah, yeah I have a double stack knob and the top knob is the speed of the echo. The bottom knob is the delta tune.
I guess it could be used as you said but doesn't seem very practical. Oh well. How about the feedback problem at different times? Is it just the location reflecting the sound back into the cab and causing the mic to pick it up and cause the problem?
