Couple questions, first time install

So, while I'm patiently waiting for my SWPGL, Dave Made 5-pill, and Wilson 5000 (mag) to arrive I've started looking at how/where to install stuff. I'm going to use a 4-gauge wire for power and ground to the DM, but what size fuse? Also, I noticed a few mag mount installs on trucks where the coax "disappears" into the 3rd brake light. Anyone have detailed pics of this and a description of what is involved?

That's it I guess. I'll just sit here waiting. (sigh)

hey there live wire i would probably use a 100amp fuse. but as far as the coax i don't have pics on how but all you got to do is take the screws out and pull the rubber back on the bottom and feed it thru to the inside and put the screws back in but make sure not to hit the coax and that the coax is on the bottom in the center if not it could leak good luck.
hatchet told you that !!!!! 273 round the big d wavin !!!!!!!!

The brake light idea is cool, just be sure you don't pinch the coax when you put it back in. Might have to file a tiny bit of the lens or cut a little bit of the seal...so the coax has a safe place to lay without being crimped...should be a great setup!

I was thinking something like that but was worried about leakage. I guess I'll give it a try when my stuff arrives. I'm going to pre-wire for the amp tonight. I'm guessing the radio should also be wired directly to the battery and fused? 30 amp on the radio? 50?

Thanks for the replies.

I would think a 30 amp would suffice...and about leakage- put a dab of clear silicone in the hole after you run it through...just a dab!

just as long as it gets done! I've got a 30 amp fuse coming from the battery, comes inside and the line splits- one line goes to a 7 amp fuse and then to my radio, the other line goes directly to the amp. Ground from amp goes to a seat-bolt, ground from radio goes under firewall. Seems to work o.k. Enjoy that radio!

30 amp will not allow no where near enough power for a 1x4 amp . if you're talking about the fuse at the battery 100-150 amps should be adequate . the fuse at the battery is to protect the vehicle from burning up in the event of a short NOT to protect the amp so make sure you use a fuse plenty big enough to allow the amp to draw all the power it wants but don't exceed the amp rating of the power line . the amp should have its own fuse for protection or you could add one for it at the amp .
