Your better off buying an Antron 99, 50 feet of coax and putting it on the chimney or side of the house. I wouldnt do the 10K thing.

I agree. You'd be much better off simply investing in a cheaper base antenna like the A99. Throw it up on a 10' pole, and it'd out perform the 10k any day. It would also make it MUCH easier to make work because you simply hook the coax up and go. With the 10k (or any mobile antenna for that matter) you are going to need to provide counterpoise...similar to what your vehicle does. So if you have the time, energy, and knowledge sure...go with the 10k. But again, I would simply throw up an A99 (or something). It's hardly massive (by comparison). ;)

You will need a ground plane to go with that 102" whip.

nope, but you would need at least a tri-mag to hold the 102".

I made a ground plane for my 10k a couple years back and it performed damn good for what it was.
dont laugh, I just threw it together.

When I first got into radio 13 years ago i tried the 102 whip as a base antenna, it worked but heavily depended on grounding, just as any 1/4 wave would.......

Save yourself a lot of time, aggrivation, agitation, and money, do what you are going to do anyway and get some good coax and an a99 and stick it up on the roof................ it will blow away anything you are going to try to do with a mobile antenna................

Keep in mind that the antenna is the most important component in any setup, a good antenna such as an a99, Imax2000, Maco, etc is mandatory.......................
Channel 32, or sometimes 33 and or 34......

Go I-max.. I know from personal experience that a 5/8 wave groundplane just 5-10 feet off the ground will outtalk an a99 at 30 feet+ to the base.

The difference between the two is uncanny (to the tune of 2+ s units)
