Im just lookin for a simple base setup, i have a chance to get one of these cheap....Anyone had any experience with em? or are they a royal POS

Just wondering if anyone has used one and if it would be adequate for local talk and such, not looking to be king of the airwaves with this one

How cheap is cheap? You can always snag a power supply and run a mobile on it to test the waters. Then, if you want a real base, go from there. -drdx

lets say around 20 dollars cheap...I already thought about running my superstar 158 on a supply, but i dont want to use it as a base, it is setup very well in the car works great lol...its just a hassle to take it in and out..Im just lookin to talk 10-20 miles here so a basic setup works for me on the base..

should work for that distance . i used to talk 30 miles at night as a teen on a cobra 89 doing 3 to 7 watts on a R/S 1/4 ground plane on a 12 ft piece of rusty pipe buried 2 feet in the ground .

10-4 on that....ya I am also eyeing an 87 gtl Well I know im gonna end up modding the 93ltdwx haha thats what the electronics engineering side of me does lol...i cant resist
