GETTING STARTED

Hey all. Love this site, tons of info. I want to get started with setting up a base radio, but I am brand new to all of this. If anyone could point me in the right direction, that would be great. Thanks for any help!

yep what busman said . the best buying decisions are always educated/informed buying decisions . also as you're reading along take note of how people mount their antennas and how they might work with your home . how/where to mount antennas is many times the most difficult part to decide on . neighbors/neighbor hood codes , near by buildings/trees , terrain , appearance and better half's approval/acceptance all play a big part in that .

I would add the suggestion that if you REALLY like this radio already, have friends into it and there's lot's of activity in your area leading you to believe that you'll be in it for a while, you may want to consider even starting out with BETTER and more capable gear rather than the cheapest starter stuff you can find. Everybody who stays in radio and starts with cheap stuff is rarely satisfied with it and keeps upgrading their stuff and more and more cost.

So save the time, trouble and expense of changing out lower-end stuff and get better quality - more capable radios, antennas ect... to start with. You'll have a great station from the start and even if you do get out of it later on, you'll be able to sell the higher end gear easier and for more money. Few will want to buy el cheapo stuff off of you or give much money for it.

What DX Monkey says is true. I am new to CB'ing, and even though these guys helped out after wards, I made a few bad antenna choices before I found this site. Buy the best you can afford, and it'll end up being cheaper and more enjoyable in the long run.
