Welcome to da forum 505. So how far can you groundwave with that Imax?? And do you have any gates of you talkin skip??? I think we all have had people be 'unprofessional' on da band...if I gated all the people that cussed me out in the past, I'd be a superstar! But now I try to be more courteous, remember with power comes great responsibility!(I just had to say it!)
Duck Commander:
Your opinion has been noted and summarily dismissed as the typical nitpicking rhetoric. Note that I did not measure the distance from the recorder to the unit, and I doubt the station doing the recording did either. I do know for a fact that the station keyed on is directly across one rural block, approximately quarter to half a mile from the recording station. He uses a 102" whip mounted on a mast at about 15 feet. If you don't want to believe it, that's perfectly fine with me.
Thanks for the welcome. The tower went up this past summer and I haven't yet had a chance to receive a gate from a DX station. If/when I get one, I will post it here for all the whiny duck's to rip on, degrade and get jealous over. This place seems to be infested with crybaby mud ducks...
I talk 10 meter when the band is open (licensed) and have worked most of the Eastern US states this year as well as stations in France, Portugal, Sweden and Spain on 28.4000 and 28.4300 USB at 200 watts; but that doesn't count in my book.
I also enjoy VHF propagation. Since 2002 I have worked 19 US states on VHF with under 250 watts on 146.52, 146.57 and 146.58.
I took the ground plane kit off the Imax a few days ago and added strobes as seen in the following photo. (The Imax begins just above the top strobe light). It seems the ground plane kit did nothing but add RX noise and wind resistance.

His SWR's are okay at about 1.6, the antenna is his own fabrication: It consists of a 102" fiberglass whip screwed into an acorn mount on a piece of angle-iron welded to a 10 foot mast.Duck Commander wrote:hahahaha so this guy was using a 102" whip on his base radio? What kinda #'s this guy gettin from
his radio and what is his SWR readings?
I donated another 5 foot mast to him to get him a whole 12 feet off the ground, he has the mast sunk 3' in the dirt to hold it upright in his yard. He uses an old Sears Roadtalker for his base radio.
You can tell by his voice on the recording that he isn't much more than a kid, I think he is 16 or 17. I admire his "ingenuity" and hope he can upgrade soon. He's a good kid.

From Hamburg to Springfield is 70 miles.
No doubt you were heard in Springfield with an imax-2000 on a 100 foot tower.
Me thinks hamburg is somewhat rural so you don't having to worry much about neighbors complaining.
Everybody has their own opinion about audio. Sounds loud to me.
But if you were in the city, you might not get away with splattering all over.

I know my radio sounds great, it also sounds great in front of my DaveMade 2x4, which does 1200 PEP. It also sounds exactly the same from 10+ miles as it does barefoot at 50 feet. And I hate to break it to you....you're still a mudduck with 2.6kw PEP. If you want to hear real water gates of a MOBILE doing 1100kw BIRD in one of the busiest area's in the country just send me a PM and I'll send you the link.GC505 wrote:I listened to your "watergate", it sounds great.
When I get a chance, I'll power down to stock and record my radio from a few feet away like you did. Then we can compare audio. As it stands, there is no comparison. Put some pills behind that little thing and have somebody 10 miles away record you keying on their neighbor a block away.
There is a reason stations like yours are never heard on the bowl. When I'm interested in asking for complimentary radio checks from the driveway I'll ask for your help.
Keep up the great work. Mud ducks need a mascot too.
There's no excuse for audio like that...like I said before people shouldn't be able to tell you are running power when it comes to your audio. And there is a reason why people like you never get called on the bowl also.....because they can't understand a word you're saying.
So you can stop pretending like you know what you are talking about, because anyone who know's anything here is laughing you.

1100kw bird, WOW, that's over a Megawatt. I couldn't resist. When the conditions really get going, we'll see who rises to fame and who doesn't. I know it won't be me. I know the big boys are out there, and I admire the massive stations they assemble, especially the good sounding ones. I am a long distance ground wave fan though, and I bet that thing could cover some ground on a clear night. -drdx
Yes it's me, Dollar-98, drdx, the original all maul, shot cawla on workin this no-fade technology.

I have never heard of Hamburg, and what does Hamburg have to do with anything? Springfield IL is about 150 miles from my location in Franklin County, IL.dud muck wrote:From Hamburg to Springfield is 70 miles.
I don't need a link to hear a real radio... I grew up in Chicago surrounded by some of the biggest stations in the country, and lived there until about a year ago. The mobile I ran would put a little 1100k on hold for the rest of the day.J-570 wrote:If you want to hear real water gates of a MOBILE doing 1100kw BIRD in one of the busiest area's in the country just send me a PM and I'll send you the link.
A 2x4... how cute. That would almost drive the driver in the mobile I just sold. Keep laughing, it just cracks me up to see the jealous laughter of a **Censored** duck who can't be what they want to be, but must rely on Internet audio files to hear big radios. That's some funny stuff! Sadly pathetic, but funny!
Someday maybe you'll get a real radio and run with the big boys, but with the arrogant stupidity you continue to display here, I doubt it.
Keep up the good work, I admit there's nothing like making a "watergate" of yourself sounding like a stock radio with a power mic talking to your base from 30 feet away in the driveway!
I'm not the one that needs to defend my sh i tty audio, I'm also not the one who has to make up stories about a mobile I never had.... so don't worry, we'll just keep laughing at your expense.....which must be pretty big 2 pill driving a 10 pill....and only doing 2600 watts PEP.....sounds like a big let down to me.

WHAT?!?!? You've never heard of Hamburg? Well then, perhaps you should get out and discover the real world, son. Then maybe you'd quit trying to ram all your "smack down" our throats...GC505 wrote:I have never heard of Hamburgdud muck wrote:From Hamburg to Springfield is 70 miles.

Man you guys are going at it.
1st. A 2 x 4 doing 1200 watt pep. How did you measure that. What voltage are you running and how big is your second alternator. If i am correct you just work out your pep by voltage x current, this is not the way to do it. Get some bird meters to see what you are really doing.
2ND. a 2 x 10 those figures to me sound about right running at around 16 volts so why say you would be disappointed
3rd. I am not knocking either one of you guys and 2x4 amps are no joke as mod squad squashes guys in Hawaii with his.
4Th. So you are telling me that the 3200 watts i see from my 16 pill measured with a dual line section 5 k slug in pep mode at 16 volts is a big let down. Hmm by the specs i am running at spec. Yes i could wind it up more but i intend on keeping the amp for a few years.
5Th You said a mobile keying down 1100kw. Are you kidding or what. Biggest mobile i would know of would be running in the vicinity of 100k for sure but you did post 1100kw..... Not bagging those key-down guys but remember their gear is all wound right up for a 10 sec key.
6Th. Go to the Davemade website and the audio on that page is similar to gc505
7Th. Remember this is CB radio and all the plastic radios are really junk for audio i don't care what you say. I do know a guy in the states who is developing a board for that valve type sound but generally plastic radios are junk. You want audio then get a valve radio and run a big **Censored** class ab1 tube amp.
8Th. If you run class c your audio characteristics will change a little no matter what as it is a dirtier signal. J570 I do very doubt that your 2 x 4 at 1200 pep (claimed) would sound the same as just the radio barefoot. Class ab1 i would agree but not class c.
9Th . Gc 505 just put a quick gate on his Audio and as i made the comment i would like to hear it from a few thousand kms and i bet ya it would sound good in radio land.
10Th. We all here to have fun and enjoy the hobby. Why don't ya guys just settle it one day with a simple key down comp all though you are prob miles apart so would be hard.......
And if ya have that gate J-570 email it to me i love listening to gates.......

All that tower and an Imax? Just for reference my 5 element maco out talked the **Censored** out of my i10k at like 30-40 ft lower barefoot for barefoot That boy needs a beam 200 watts on my beam is pretty close to the 3500 I ran on my i10k.
Granted it's a lot cheaper to throw an i10k 80ft in a pine tree vs putting up a 80 ft tower and then putting up a beam, but if I already had a tower up, a ground plane would be my last worry...
I've got my tower up to nearly 50 ft now, but I'm going up to 100 in the next few weeks.. gotta set my guys up and make new foundation... just had it bracketed to house at 25 ft or so before, gonna move it out into my back yard and get the guys up to get it that high.
Peace,
Josh

shame on the mess ! poor guy posted to toot his horn a little, and everyone stuffed dirty socks in it. 1) cool tower, i be jealous. (looks like a police of fire tower?) 2) dont you think that imax is getting warm or hot from the 2600 peak ? 3) if u got a hot rig, u need to take it to a dragstrip. get some gates of you on ch 11 or 6. then no one will be able to dispute. 4) audio is all opinion. there is no bad audio unless you cant decipher words (my opinion). some people like to sound like a nice acoustic guitar, some like to sound like jimi hendrix. chose your weapon. 209
