finally got my imax in a pine tree

Post by MOONSHINER »

the tree man came this morning and in a bout 1.5 hours he had it installed. I used a 10' section of 1 1/4" conduit and attached them by stainless steel hose clamps. rough estimate is about 85' to the feed.

swr is great on 12m, 11m, and 10m.

pics arent the greatest, I dunno whats wrong with the camera.

Man, you got that thing UP there! Nice work. How much did the tree guy tax you for doing that?
I have an Imax about 35' in a pin oak that got topped in a storm. That's 35' at the base and I'm lucky enough to be on the hill.
Where did you have it before? You're gonna get good performance outta that!

I like it! I bet that wasn't cheap! Hopefully when I get the chance to buy a house I will get lucky enough to have a tall tree like that close to my house. Get out good does it? What kind of extensive work was all involved in getting that thing up there?

Unplug your coax when there's lightning near by. That looks to be the highest object in the area. Nice job getting it up that high looks great!!!

You aren't kidding 80 Meter Man! Somebody better be investing in some good lightning protection with that antenna! Looks good though, and I'll bet you can talk to the other side of nowhere when conditions are right.

70 bucks???????????? I can't think of anything a contractor will do here in Massachusetts for 70 bucks except swear at you on the phone telling you not to waist there time. I'm thinking like the other poster said 300 bucks minimum!! Probably more like 500. You got a great deal!! Nice job..

Yep...they work pretty darn well up there. About 16 years ago I had my A99 up in the top of a Douglas Fir tree about 90' to the feed point. Worked great! Nice job...and I agree, you got a smokin' deal on that install!

80mm...

Times a slow, especially in construciton and folks are willing to do things cheaper for quick cash.

I errected my tower myself with the rotor and schedule 80 mast pipe in it (lowered of course). I put the beam (moonraker 4) together on the ground with some mast pipe and my chain link fence. I paid a boy, and you won't believe me, $50 and an old set of KLV1000 tubes, to climb up the tower, hoist the beam up, put it on the pipe, then raise the pipe/beam and set the rotor in place. I was tickeled to death. And this was HIS price. I was expecting to pay a couple hundred bucks. He even climed up a couple times while were were getting the orientation set on my Ham IV rotor.
