If I can buy a 2990 for less than $300 is that a good deal? Unit is used but seems to function well. Only has minor scuffs and light scratches.
Thanks for your opinions.

ive never owned a 2990, but i do got the newer 2995dx and its one of my favorite radios. ive heard that the 2990s had power supply problems but like i said, ive never owned one so what do i know. i suppose if it all works, 300$ aint to bad. maybe the 2990 experts will chime in.

just make sure its tuned up right. If the RF Power doesnt work on SSB its been hacked up take it to a good shop that knows how to set it up right.Had a 2995DX that wouldnt talk SSB and some hack put a diode on the SMT board took the diode out and SSB came back to life.

BUY IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2990 is the best base you could ever want.
But there is one thing.
There is a good chance that the power supply is out or going to go out.
I only know of one man who can fix it.
Let me know and I will PM you his info.

I have one, and like said above, the power supplies are prone to problems, BUT, if you run it conservatively, and keep a fan on it, it should last. If it did go bad, I also know someone (he's a licensed RCI repair tech) who can fix it, and also, he showed me a REPLACEMENT power supply that is is available for them, that is just like what is in the 2995DX.
Mine was bad when I got it, but if I knew then what I know now, I would have gotten it fixed. I run mine on an external power supply.

Flea bay has a 2980 with two tuners for sale for current bid about 200.

the 2980 I had back years ago would deadkey 1.5 watts and swing 45 watts with rf power all the way down. I never turned it up because it always drove an amp.
