how much does a tower like that cost in general? linx mentioned he thought most people were scared of doing this??? i think its more of a cost issue, as well as, it seems a bit much just to talk on a CB. But, i am not badmouthing it....it is awesome!! I hope to have one like it someday if I have the money.

Its hard to put a price on something like this.If you went out and bought it all new then I'm sure it would be a pretty penny but thats not what i did. I took my time and collected all the pieces to the puzzle over a 6 month period and put it all together at one time. As for the actual tower it was free. I seen it in an old womens yard with a broken set of Maco 3's on top of it.She gave it to me just to get it out of her yard. Its not the first one I've done this way. To date I've taken down 5 towers, all given to me just to get them out of peoples yards. I decided to keep this one for my self since its a good bit heaver built then the Rohn 25 towers I've taken down. The only thing i had to buy for the hinge plate was the couplers i used to make the hinge. Got the steel free from a local scrap yard. The guy wires were free as well. I got them for the electric company. They were in the process of taking down some old cable lines and were just cutting the cable up in long sections of 100 to 300 feet rolls. The turn buckles come for another tower i took down. Go tthe mast pole from a pipe fitter that was working on a job with me.I had to buy the barring for my mast pipe,concrete, paint for the tower, ground anchors, grade 8 nuts and bolts, PVC for burring my coax and U clamps. As you can see,with a lot of effort a tower can be had at a reasonable price.If you really start looking hard you will find that you can gather up most of the stuff you need.But no one will do it for you.Just keep your eyes and ears open. There are tons of old towers out there folks will just give you

Now i did not add the antenna because you may just want to get a ground plane. If a person was to decide to go the route i did with a beam, rotor and good coax the $$$ can start to add up a little more quickly

No joke on that. Raising my beam was more work than I thought too, lol. It worked out great with my hinge till I started raising it and blew out a leg of my tower. Took 2 more weeks of hard working after work to get it strait, and put in the air.

Well worth it, although I am now a scaredy cat in wind storms...that's a lot of money to throw away if wind takes it down.
