Here is my plan

In my quest for way more power on my big ole base I have come up with an idea.

I'm going to get me 4 yellow top batteries to start with. Then I'm going to get me two high amp alternators but instead of driving them with an engine I'm going to drive them with a three phase motor. I'm thinking of using a 1hp 3phase motor that runs at 1750rpms. You can buy these dirt cheap used, say under $40. I could build up a bracket to mount them and wire them up, no problem. Then I'm going to build me a couple of alternator brackets and find the right size pulley to get the rpms I need out of the alternators. I think I will be able to run some super high power through my base without having to mortgage my house to afford the power supply needed. I just need to figure out how to hook up a voltage regulator and I'm thinking about hooking it up kind of like an air conditioner clutch where the alternator only turns when required, either that or I'll just use a normal voltage regulator.

Oh and yes my shack has three phase power so that is no problem.

thoughts?

Get in touch with 228Kidd or some of the others that are into the super high power mobiles. They can tell you more than you need to know about the alternators and voltage regulation.
