OMG,like I needed another obsession
Well I got the idea it might be cool to check out whats doin on the ham and other bands.I have been borrowing a small Realistic ssb capable radio from a friend for a couple weeks .At first I was not all that impressed but I decided to cobble together a couple random lengths of wire as an antenna and what do ya know, that little radio came to life.I was picking up all kinds of stuff, foreign broadcast radio stations from all over, hams on ssb as well as am in the 75/80 meter area and all kinds of morse code I don't understand.Well I went and got myself all excited and went and bought a Kenwood r2000 general coverage receiver off evilbay.I can see it now,my wife is gonna kill me As if I don't spend enough on the cb hobby now I have a whole new radio related hobby to spend money on.It could get ugly Anyway I cant wait to get the Kenwood and get it set up.Will let you all know how it performs.Shawn

The Kenwood is a cracking rcvr, and you will have a lot of fun with it......IF you live!!!.............The other option is, do what I did...Get your wife involved with radio, it worked for me...Kind of!....She has talked further than I have (U.S. Virgin Islands)...But then you would expect that of a woman...Enjoy!
You know the bad part is now I am thinking maybe its finally time for me to get my ham ticket Well you know what that means, more equipment.I swear one of these days I'm not going to wake up,the better half is gonna do me in I already am thinking instead of buying just a receiver I should have bought a transceiver so if I get my ticket I would already have hf covered.I was looking at the Kenwood TS440SAT.I know its an older rig but I like the look and it seems to have everything you could want, well want within reason. On the plus side the 440 and the r2000 look very similar. They would look real good sitting side by side on the bench along with a couple of those nice matching speakers and a matching Kenwood power supply. You see this is how I get myself into trouble.Oh well I could be spending my money on much worse things than radio equipment.Shawn
