Seems to work well. Got three call backs from Kentucky, one from Illinios, and one from Georgia Tuesday night when skip was rolling. Locals tell me it sounds nice a clear.

Older RCI-2980 with some mods that include variable echo and talkback with volume control. I dunno what else was done to it.

... and here's the Vector 4000. It's up about 27' at the base of the antenna.

P.S. If you wanna see more pics of the antenna installation, go to this post ...

Looks like someone is trying to put your needle into the strawberry patch...I'll bet that the 2980 and Vector will return the favor...

Nice looking setup, LM! :D

It's a Vector 4000 7/8 wave antenna from Sirio in Italy. Seems to work great so far.

Thanks guys! I'm enjoying the set up a lot. Locals tell me it sounds great. Only issue I have is on sideband they tell me there is some sort of noise that makes it hard to understand me. I'll have to figure out what it is.

When I started this addictive hobby in 1974 there was a similar antenna sold as a "Sigma 5/8th wave", if memory serves me well. Highly desirable with outstanding performance (please, someone correct me if I am wrong with the name). That thing is a beast as were the ones I am referring to. Have fun!

Wow good looking set-up there LOUDMOUTH! I just saw your posting of setting up that Vector antenna. Great looking job. That is one long antenna .... 32 feet! Don't know where you live but hope you don't get any ice storms. I couldn't use that here in Missouri I don't think. What kind of distance do you get from base to mobile?

Thanks Tezterz, we had some heavy winds and snow last night. I was watching my SWRs expecting the Vector to snap at any moment, but it stayed put and look none the worse for wear this morning. Now an ice storm would be bad, and yes, we get them here too. Just gotta keep my fingers crossed.
