You won't regret it. I went from a magnet mount to a through the roof setup and have been very pleased with the results. It takes a little more time on the install, but once done, you're good to go with no wires or hardware to worry about disappearing or moving.

I know that truck I think I saw you on South 35 in Downtown last Saturday morning, but you have a W5K on the roof and I wasn't in my truck to see who you were.

What size amp?

I am thinking of doing the same set-up as you. How powerful is your amp? If you are being heard at 60 miles away -- it must be powerful? What Amp size is it? Thank you!

The install looks good! I have a question though, did you ask for/order a 55 antenna? The one in the pic is a fatboy design, not a 55. I have a fatboy antenna similar to yours, my bottom shaft is a little longer.

Fatboy is now building the 55 antenna for Terry
is the same design same antenna

if it is a longer bottom shaft then you might have the baby 55
or you might have the R-4 or the R-6

but its the same design

besides that antenna is not a 55 antenna
its a shorty Fatboy antenna

I'm confused with your post. I know fatboy is manufacturing "55" antenna's. The point I was trying to make is that 3-toe's and I have a fatboy antenna.. not a "55". When I bought my antenna's, I don't even think he was selling 55's yet.

Thanks for the replies.
The amp that is in the pics is a DaveMade 2x4 and runs great on this setup.

As far as the antenna, It is a Fatboy shorty but they are making the 55. When I ordered it I ordered a 55 with that shaft size and that is what I got.

Now to update the install, I changed the 55 out with a 10K Comp and got better tx/rx and was louder with audio. my reflect went from around 32watts
with the 55 to 0watts with the 10K. The 10K was also shorter than the 55 and has less wind drag.
There is a noticeable difference in craftsmanship also. The 10K has tighter tolerances and a clean look the 55 was a bit off center and the insulator had gaps were it meets the shaft this allows water intrusion on a greater scale. This is why I will not use the 55.

The 55 is in my garage and I put a 10K on my new F-150 also.
Hope this helps.

OL-3-TOE wrote:Well here we go my new antenna and mount are finally installed.
I did alot of research and ask for advice from a few of the more than helpful members here on the forum.
The mount I use was the 4" Puck mount from RF Power, I also used their 5" backup plate for the inside.
The shipment was fast and I had the mount and plate in about 4 days. I do metal work myself and would have to say
the quality is OUTSTANDING and FLAWLESS.
I ordered my antenna from ChargerCharger it is the 55 antenna 4 wrap coil.
I completed the connection with 18' of 217u coax.
The install was a snap the hardest part was centering the hole to drill in the roof.
The Puck and Plate make a nice solid mount for some of the bigger antenna. The 55 is right at 86" tall from the mount to the tip of the stinger.
My main worry was setting the swr. I started at the half way point with the stinger only mid way in the shaft. My first readings were
CHL 1 ( 1.0 ) CHL 20 ( 1.0 ) and CHL 40 ( 1.0 ) . I thought that the install was wrong and double checked all my connections and made sure I had a good
ground. All checked good and the readings stayed the same. I didn't have to adjust the swr at all. Sweeeeet!!

My first radio check came from 60 miles away and said I was blow-in smoke.
I could not be happier with the out come.

Thanks for all the advice and shopping tips.

the part in bold that says its a 55 antenna 4 wrap
i assumed that you were saying the 4 wrap antenna was a 55 antenna
i must have missread that part
no problem

Will say this is a very nice install already going with solid mount with big coax and now you are all ready for future amp upgrades.

Were you able to install you PUCK WITHOUT removing your headliner? I have a Toyota Rav 4 amd really hope I don't have to remove the headliner.

I dropped the liner down in the back of the truck, just enough to reach to the mounting spot.
