Will this Pole work for a Beam or Say Imax Antenna??
Hey guys I have this Flag Pole out on the Lake Side of our Cabin that seams to be pretty heavy duty and seams pretty stable even in high winds that we get at times it even held up through a Tornado 3 years ago and everyone else Poles were laid over like a paper clip, I know it is a little rough but if you all think it will work I plan on cleaning it up real nice before I install a antenna on it. To be honest with you all I have no experience in a Base Antenna Set up but alot of experience in the Mobile Antenna area, is what I mean with little experience in the Base side is the engineering part like the wind, weight, load, etc. Happen to think of this pole we have and was wondering if it would work and what all I will need to accomplish the job. The other idea is to purchase a Tower but just thinking of all that Stresses my **Censored** out and confuses me even more, sound simple until you start putting it all together. Anyway I would like to get a Beam someday because of how everyone brags them up and would like to mount a Beam stacked and something like a Imax on top. I do own a Coily Enforcer that I need to get in the air but don't know if that pole will do me any good or do I need a tower for what I want to do? Any help here would be appreciated greatly. here are some pictures of the Pole and I have alot more of closer up and from different angles.

The last Picture is a a eve where I was thinking maybe a Telescoping Mast with a eve mount of some type but don't know what kind of antenna those things will hold. Thanks in advance.

Looks like it might work. Friend of mine has a home made tubular tower like your flag pole that has supported his Moonraker4 (self support) for the last 15 years with no problem. BUT, he doesn't have the couplings like you do. I'd probably get rid of those and weld the pipe instead like he did. That looks like Schedule40 galvanized you have there...but I can't tell for sure.
How would you propose to get the antenna to the top? My friend has a crank over support system for his...so that might work for you, too. But it'd mean disassembling what you have and modifying it. Not seeing the materials in person I'd probably plan on guys for it. Even dangling dacron rope and hooking them up during bad seasons would be a good idea.
Based on the pics I think you could make it work, though. But if you aren't familiar with base antennas and don't want to move forward with a beam just yet, throw an Imax or something up there and go for it. You can always put a beam up down the road.

The pole is mounted down into a concrete slab and not for sure how far but like I said it has been through alot and still standing. So with it mounted into the ground/concrete slab would I still need to ground it or hard to tell? Could I get by adding like a Boom or side arm where I can mount a Jo Gunn Smoking Gun II up there also with the Imax 2000 if I kept them far enough apart from each other because I need to also put up a Cellular Antenna for our repeater and I also have a couple Antennas for my Uniden BCD396T Scanner like the Scantenna by Antenna Craft and the Austin Spectra also thinking of a Discone Antenna in the near future. Do you think this could be possible with some planning and a good game plan put together?
Again thanks in advance, any and information sure help the planning process and nice to here others and the ideas so anyone else feel free to speak up with you ideas and thoughts.

Well, the beam you are talking about shouldn't be a problem. But you also have a rotor to add to that...so there's some more weight up there. Your small antennas (i.e. scanner discone, etc.) could probably be supported okay lower on the support mast. But I wouldn't consider putting the 11m omni on the same masting. For one thing it should be at least 1/2 wavelength away (or more). It can cause interference with the beam close by. But also you start loading up a bunch of stuff on there, and you begin to lower it's effective strength IMO...especially in bad weather.
If you have easy access to a cherry picker that'd probably work. But other than that I'm not sure how you'd be able to raise/lower a fixture with a tapering mast like that. If your antenna(s) have a problem, how would you gain access to them?
As far as the ground goes, there are a few threads going on that topic already with some very good info' to consider.
Not sure that helps any...but just some thoughts.

Anyone else have any ideas or suggestions? I see where Hi-gain has a Telescoping Mast that extends 65', is anyone used something like that for a Beam Antenna? I'm just wondering if something like that would work better for the Beam and use the Pole for the Verticals and Scanner Antennas and possible use the Eve to mount the Telescoping Mast on with the Beam beings that would give us a way to the Beam in the air. And is there maybe a Tower that someone has used to do this with that tilts and or is Telescoping where I could just mount everything on the Tower like I seen the Hazers? anyone know of a good set up going with a Tower that can shed some light going that route like Cost wise, Height I should go with Min/Max lenght or am I better off with using the Pole I have and maybe the Hy-gain Mast mounted up on the Eve?
Thanks again, sure like to here from others that have a similar set up and what all was involved for them.

well well well, an antenna frenzy. awesome. here are some random thoughts to chew on. antennas at the minimum need to be one wavelength apart to not wreck the radiation pattern. so when we see a vertical mounted on top of a beam, we know each is not operating at its maximum potential, even though they work good. i have 3 antennas, antron, maco v 5/8 and a 6 element beam. all are greater than 2 wavelengths apart. thus i know they interfere with eachother very little. only problem is it costs more dough! can you reach the top of that pole with a ladder ? there are antenna mounts (radio shack used to sell em) for vent pipes on buildings. depending on the size of the pole, it may work. otherwise i would use a 10 foot mast, and attach 5 feet of the mast to the pole with about 20 stainless steel hose clamps. then i would mount a beam at the other side of the house so its farther away. 2zero9

don't worry about wavelength.........those flats is that pic are the best ground plane for that imax i have ever seen....mojoe can out hear and talk myself on the imax
No....I repeat NO SWR.....or Reflect on either antenna.......working spectacular
get a rotor enough and mast mount it....right to the top of the pole....put beam about 1 or 2 feet above it....then mount the imax 2 feet above the beam.....TURN IT ALL
just get a beam big enough it has more gain than the imax.....4 element is where i would start....i'm bias tho...i have one

On the other thought, has anyone used a Laser 400 12 Element Beam before? Are they worth the money? How high does it need to be up to perform well? I just came across a guy that has one for sale he wants 350.00 if I come and get it, he said it's brand new never been up and he thought he paid 550.00 plus shipping for it 8 months ago. Sounds like a deal but I don't know anything about them. He said its big. I was wondering if I could mount this baby on my roof some how and with what and how high. Anyone could help me there would be great or can it go up on that pole? I do have a big roof single story one level and one wing of my house runs 185ft one one by 65ft and the center that attaches the other wing is 65ft by 115ft no power lines or trees to be worried about. What kind of Rotor would I need for something this size for the Laser 400.
Thanks in advance,

This would be the ultimate set up, can anyone identify these Antennas have any idea as to what these are used for and possible what meters you could run on them. I sure 11 meter would work too wouldn't it?

Also have any idea who makes Antennas like those, maybe MFJ/Hy-gain?

The 6 element antenna is a KLM KT 34XA 6 element tribander 10 15 and 20 meters with linear loading. The 1 above it is a 5 element 6 meter beam it appears .Darrin wrote:This would be the ultimate set up, can anyone identify these Antennas have any idea as to what these are used for and possible what meters you could run on them. Now that 3rd antenna on tp of the KLM tribander is a rotatable dipole on 75 meters
