what radio you think is best out of these 3
I was wondering what radio you think is the best or what one you like the best out of these 3.
Connex 4800 dxl
magnum S9
Galaxy 99
Connex 4800 dxl
magnum S9
Galaxy 99
Well i have a Galaxy 99 and i love it it works good and will talk a long way barefoot, all i have for backup if someone tries to get a litle rowdy is a Twister 250-V and it does the job. But man i guess i didn't help you any i don't know about the other 2 never owned a connex but i do own a new Magnum S-3 with Mossfet finals and i like it as well.
i just got a general lee which u know is the same as a connex 3300H/P and it is loud and proud talked to my dad on it and he said it sounded really strong so im sure the connex 4800 is one heck of a radio and from what i have read on this forum the magnum S-9 is very well built but dont know from experience just what i have read
Galaxy has the best warranty, but I do like the Connex or the Magnum because of the 6 digit counter. Overall the S9 is a good choice, but I don't think you'd be disappointed with the Connex. Galaxy is a good radio, just a little behind the times when it comes to the design. You could go with a DX93 for a little more money, I've seen them as cheap as $369 and the DX99 is usually about $345 or so. The DX93 would be a really good choice since you get the six digit counter, more power and a great warranty.
The connex 4800 looks but but is built on a cheap o la chassis, no where near as good as a 99V.
Magnum S9 Agreed poorly built, but a big talker.
99V is a winner there, but whoever talked about the connex 3300 h/p or general lee thats 100% most bang for the buck. Same style chassis as the 99V but better built, same dual finals, same big talk power..........the 3300 is 1000x better then the 4800.

well the galaxy 99v only has a 5 digit frequency counter the other two have 6.I dont want a general lee cause i talk on sideband 95% of the time and the S9 I was told has both clarifiers unlocked and i like that makes it easyer.IM not say the galaxy 99v is a bad radio cause its not i really do like it but everyone that i have talked to so far that has one has told me the drift off frequency alot on sideband and there hard to get on frequency also for side band. The 99v was going to be the radio i was going to buy but i dont like the fact the drift so much on sideband.I I was going to use it just for AM then heck i would be buying one.the connex 4800 dxl isnt bad a freind of mine has on it sounds pretty darn good.you say the magnum S9 is BUILT CHEAP? how so? only thing bad about it i hear is the knobs.
Not that I know of I own 5 radios. I put them in each of my 5 Pete's and no problems yet after 6 years.
I also put one in my pickup truck 3 years ago not a problem child yet.
The only problem I had even related to the radio was with the 636l mic cord. I pulled it loose at the bottom of the mic(my fault) after that no problems.

tod are you saying you own 5 galaxys?do you own a galaxy 99v?..the big problem i hear with the galaxy 99v is that they drift on sideband.has anyone one bought one new and had it in there truck for a few years with no problems?what ever radio i buy is going in my pickup truck and i go off road with my pickup so its gonna get banged around a bit.
Yes they are all 99V's all tuned by a man in Hampshire Illinois all tuned with a Scope and sideband works good not as good as my Kenwood but for $2000.00 less it's real good.
You might also want to consider a SMD radio like a RCI6900 F150 Rugged as heck Have one in a dump truck ( not my truck but my radio)hauling gravel between two sites here in Illinois Three years old never a lick of problems with either the RCI or the 99V.

no
as far as i know the magnum has very little
or no drift on sideband.
what it all boils down to is what radio
works good for you. you can not believe
everything you read. believe me i have
owned many a radio in 25 years of this hobby
i have spent several thousands of dollars
over the years.

My 93T drifts like a sail boat on SSB till i talk awhile and the radio warms up and then its alright! The longer i talk on my 93T the better it talks.I like to get it as warm as i can the better, but haven't seen to even do that yet!I dont thing the fans on the back have even kicked on yet.If they have i dont know and i'm swinging around 50+ watts out the back! :Peace!:
