I have not had a base set up sence 79 And after reading all the posts here I would like to get another one. Now here is my dumb question. I have a two story flat roofed Double, that I gutted an made one big house out of. My office is on the second floor front of the house could I mount a 102" to the rain gutter????? Would it work well???

Hi KR,

That should work but you'll probably have to add a 4" extension or spring to make the whip longer. Most 102"ers by themselves resonate perfectly higher up the band and you'll see some SWR on the CB channels.

When i had my 102" used for a base I had my spring with mount attached to wood with a separate ground. It worked ok but not as good as a base made antenna. The swrs were around 1.3 in the middle of band. hope this helps

102 steel whip on a house makes a great lighting rod!

Will it work? Sure it will. Is there a better way? For sure. The one thing you have to remember is that any time the wind blows that antenna will bend with the wind and so your incoming signal will fade in and out just as your transmitting signal to others will. Do your self a favor and buy a Imax 2000 or Antron 99. Both less than a $100.00 and its a mount the antenna where you want it and forget about kinda thing.
