I cant hear anything. barely can hear white noise when squelch is all the way counter clockwise. Could it be that it is just a quiet day? was having more noise like 4 days ago. we had a big winter storm, could that have somethin to do with it? im clueless.

radio: radioshack trc- 503 mini moblie

antenna: a99

coax: rg58

The situation is the same here, the radio is very quiet. At best I could hear truckers in about a 4 miles range. I think conditions are just not favorable for the 11 meter band at the moment. C'mon sunspots ....... give us some action

Well, in my experience, with my Cobra 29 I can "usually" run my squelch all the way to the left. Some days I have to turn it up to about 11 o'clock. It's the only radio I have that I can run it that way. Just depends on the conditions for the day. However, as far as RX, you can usually RX with about anything, even a piece of wire. How is your SWR on TX after all the snow and ice? Give it some time. If your SWR is way off then it was before, then check the coax or antenna for problems. If it is fine, then give it a little time, see if the RX picks back up. Let us know what you come up with.

Silly question, but did the RF Gain knob (if equipped) on your radio get accidently turned down? This would decrease your receive, or it could just be a quiet time on the air waves - we get those around here sometimes. The difference between the 1.2:1 and 1.3:1 SWR shouldn't make a difference on your receive...

Hmmm. Not a big change in SWR to make a difference, but as far as being able to hear people talking, are you referring to the same people day after day? Locals? Or just drivers passing through? If it's just drivers passing through, then it could be the junk that they are using. You wouldn't believe the amount of drivers that actually hook a sweet radio up to a factory ran coax and antennas on a big truck that can't get out across the street. I see (and hear) it all the time. Hope this helps, but give it time. See if your RX picks back up.

That's when i hop in the mobile & i get someone on my base to check it out along with checking swrs & watt meter, I already thought that though even though alot of times its the atmosphere & just plain quiet.
