questions about a dipole antenna
How well do dipole antenna's work, i am trying to get the cheapest and most effective antenna and i keep hearing this come up. Any suggestions?

Dipoles work pretty well, but they don't have any gain.
A better option is the double bazooka dipole. You can make one out of some coax and wire, and they have gain.
PM me if you want more detail about making the double bazooka. I've probably made about 8 so far. they're great antennas, VERY broadbanded, excellent for skip.

CB is 11 meters, and that falls into the high end spectrum of 10-160. The dipole is simple, effective, cheap to build. It's one of the standards all antennas are measured by. There are though, much better antennas for the band (A-99, Imax, Maco5/8, beams, etc.) If your curious, build one. It's easy enough. And if you happen to be a short wave listener, feed it with open ladder line, and you'll have an antenna that "hears" good on other bands. The ladder line, not being shielded, becomes part of the antenna "system".

Every station should have a dipole antenna even if you only keep it for emergencies.
That double bazooka dipole works great and makes a great flatside backup if you already have a vertical antenna, even though since it does not cause TVI and it is a 1/2 wave vertical most people would better using it then a A99 or Imax.

I just bought a proton 99 antenna and a double bazooka antenna.
The double bazooka was one made for 11 meters. Would I have been better off with a longer version. something like a 40m thru 10m double bazooka, since I have limited space to hang one of these antennas. Could I use this antenna for 10m also.
I would also like to know if I could put up the proton 99 with the double bazooka just under the 99.
Would this cause any problems with using the a99 or the double bazooka in any way.
I'm going to put these antennas up at 30ft.
I like the idea that the double bazooka doesn't produce tvi emissions, or at least less than the a99.
