Back To (Old) School
Dug my old Cam88 out of the closet awhile back and finally got around to retubing it this past weekend. I bought this radio off my Uncle back in the late 70's and it is the first base radio I ever owned. Recently picked up an old Eagle 500 from one of the locals and decided to set up an "old school" all tube station just for giggles and grins. Been talking on it for a couple of days now and getting all kinds of (unsolicited) comments on how good it sounds. Many are surprised when I tell them that I'm talking on a 30+ year old radio. :D

lol...yeah, I've got a few other "oldie but goodies" packed away, but with a 7 year old running in and out of the radio room I just can't bring myself to putting them inline... ![Wink ](./images/smilies/icon/wink.gif)

Around here there are a bunch of locals who have what they call The Classic Radio Roundup. They all get together on I think its a Wednesday night and break out the old school stuff.I only listen as I respect their wanting to keep it all old school and certainly nothing I have would pass that criteria
Its cool to hear the old Trams and DAKS and Regencies and the like on the airwaves and sounding choice. Some day when I get out of town living and can set up a descent base I will most definitely be looking to put together an old school setup to play around with once in a while.HMMMMMM..........Hows a set of Browning Golden eagles backed up by an old Varmint tube amp sound????????Shawn

I listen to "The Classic Radio Roundup" via the link on the forum on occasion. Though I'm sure that the audio quality sounds much better live, it is nice to hear some of the older radios still filling the airwaves. With the exception of a couple others, most around here are running newer gear. I usually run newer gear as well, but thought it would be nice to dig out a few of the old tube rigs and blow the dust off them. Last month it was the Dak IX...next week...??? I think the Golden Eagle/Varmit combo would be awesome! ![Wink ](./images/smilies/icon/wink.gif)

The Eagle is a perfect paring for that radio. Is that mic a Turner 454C?TwentyTwo-Zero wrote:Dug my old Cam88 out of the closet awhile back and finally got around to retubing it this past weekend. I'm pretty sure it's a Turner, but haven't been able to find any identifying marks on it. The round center piece on the grill is blank, and no lettering on the front of the ptt switch. It's four wire, non-amplified and has a cutout in the bottom plate for a slide switch, but one was never installed in it. It's the same mic that came with the radio when I bought it from my Uncle...928bolo wrote:The Eagle is a perfect paring for that radio. Is that mic a Turner 454C?
lol...it just depends on what part of the room you look at. On one side you see the Cam88, Dak IX, Excalibur SSB and the Cobra 2000GTL. Turn your head and you see the RCI 2995DX, 2980WX and the Cobra 200GTLDX...plus a couple other "goodies"...busman wrote:that is a fine lookin set up you got there 22-0. nothing wrong with old school.
