The Cobra 25 and Uniden 68 are basically the same, as well as the Cobra 29 and Uniden 78.

The older Cobras were built with more quality in mind. You can open an old Cobra side by side with a newer China Cobra and see the quality difference. The Cobra built in the Philippians and built in Taiwan are bar-none, hard to beat. On a side note, the newer China ones are more computerized in their manufacturing process, so honestly should be built a little more with tolerance in mind.

Unidens have always been good quality radios in my opinion. The older Unidens and newer Unidens hardly changed at all, and in fact are the same quality as the older Cobras. Some of the older Cobras were actually built by Uniden for Cobra.

If you open up a Uniden and a newer Cobra, you will see the Uniden has all the parts pulled snugly to the board, with a good solder jobs. If you look at the Cobra the parts will be sloppy looking. They don't pull the parts down flush on the board, the soldering is sloppy, and half the components on the board look like they're falling on other components.

Both are good radios, and will run good for you. I have owned both, and liked them both. One, a Cobra 148 Taiwan, I owned for about 9 years and didn't want to let go, but finally did to pursue other options.
