BEST MIC FOR A 2995DX SSB
All you 2995DX owners what would be a good mic choice for SSB? Would like a desk mic if possible. The radio is SWP.

I use a D-104 S.E., there is a SSB head available for these mics but I don't have any info on what difference it makes. I run the gain on the mic itself just barely on, then adjust the radio mic gain. The old style D-104's (TUG8) will not "key" this radio because of impedance mismatch. The later style D-104 (TUG9) have a 2 transistor board that will operate the newer low impedance radios.

I've used a Galaxy Desk Mic, a couple different D104s, a Kenwood MC60a and a Pryme PMC200. I got the best audio reports with the Kenwood and the Pryme - the Pryme having a slight advantage over the Kenwood - it has a built in equalizer and compression.

I personally LOVE the JCD 201M. It's made by JCC (i think).
Anyway, It's got 2 compression levels and a manual gain control without compression, kinda like a regular amplified mic. It's also got 2 specific settings for the mode you're talking on, one for AM/FM and another specifically for SSB. The mode switch changes the voice frequency characteristics that it allows through the mic to give optimum voice clarity on certain modes of transmit.
If that makes any sense?
I get GREAT reports with this mic! "Crisp, Clean and Crystal Clear audio!" All the locals that I talk to all say that I sound better than I EVER HAVE and that they're gonna look into getting one for themselves. LOL!
SSB reports are great also. It's an all around GREAT MIC!
I picked mine up at H & Y Electronics for around $120.00. It's been a couple of months since I bought it but the $ should be the same. It may seem a little high priced...BUT...it's WELL WORTH IT!
