Modern day equiv. to Cobra 2000 GTL
....or better if there is one.
Looking for input for future base. Considering 2995DX or similar with Maco V5000, Y or V quad.
Saw a 2000GTL on the bay, still in box with plastic wrap on it!!! around $650 I believe...wowzers.

yeah, I saw that one too. $650 is a little out of my price range right now! As far as a modern day equivalent to a Cobra 2000, there's probably not one. You made about the best choice for a good quality, sideband-base by choosing the 2995. If I was in the market for a nice sideband rig to sit on my desk, that'd be the one I would choose. No radio will ever have as much class and stature that those old Cobra 2000s had, it's just the way of the world. You have to change with the times and the 2995 is a good compromise!

In my opinion, the 2000 GTL is the few, if not, the only CB that is build way ahead of it's time, it's virtually timeless....Slim Jim wrote:No radio will ever have as much class and stature that those old Cobra 2000s had, it's just the way of the world. i know i problay will take some heat for this suggestion but one radio i think is way under rated is the Magnum S-3200 base. i took a chance on one to use as not to use all my classic radios like my Trams,Brownings & Cobra 2000 all the time and have been quite surprised at the performance or this little known base thats under $300.00. it's got all you need to talk DX or Local not a lot of frills like echo or talk back stuff, but just a great little SSB radio with pleanty of frequencies to play with. has a jack in the back to add on a frequency counter like the Galaxy 347 to give you continuos read oout on TX/RX. on AM i use an Aststic EchoMax 2000 mic that gives it plenty loud modulation and On SSB where i talk 95% of the time i use either a Astatic 576-m6 or a silver eagle with a 10A head and get nothing but great reports. the Receive is equel to the Receive on my Cobra 2000 as well as the audio. and talk about added channels this radios has 8 bands of extras. also it has the fine & coarse Clarifier for ssb like the 2000 tone & mic gain. wattage wise i have a 2 watt dead key with a swing to 18 watts. radio has AM,FM,LSB,USB,CW modes with tasteful mode lights. a lot of guys give this radio a bad wrap but i think the first production run had some issues but i am more than well pleased with this little radio. and i do have a 2000 to com pair it too. i think the 2000 is overrated they look pretty but the internal power supply has some issues. i always thought that the best radio in that era for a transistor Base was the Uniden President Washington. great on SSB and a wide range of Channel expansion. the Cobra 2000 is a true classic but over rated in my opinion. as far as the beam between the V & Y Quad that Y Quad is a great beam for the money i used one and on SSB talked all over the world with it on SSB with as little a 18 watts or with a little 250 watt kicker. but that Magnum S-3200B base is a real performer for under $300.00. Magnum radio sneaks them out there just check out how many guys love there little 257 mobile radio they perform right along with the RCI 2950's for half the price.
