You're in luck. There's this dude on eBay that sells Cobra 2000 parts, and actually sells Cobra 2000's that look brand new. I'm not trying to plug him, but his eBay ID is we-love-to-fish. I've talked with him about buying one of his pristine Cobra 2000's in the past. Check out his auctions. In fact, he's got a freq counter for sale right now located at [Please login or register to view this link]

By the way, I'm not this guy, nor do I support him or endorse him. He just happens to have what you need.

That's not the counter, that's the LED display. The counter itself is a stainless steel box measuring roughly about 3"x5"x2".

How did the original counter break? Did it go to 92.2000 or did it just go dark? Does it display the wrong frequency?

10-4. Sorry about that. Send that dude an e-mail and I bet he has one. If he gets a Cobra 2000 that isn't 100% as new, then he scraps it for parts. I've seen him sell hundreds of like new Cobra 2000's and tons of parts.

Yeah, I can attest to his stuff, I got a 2000 front bezel from him that's in use now. He does take care of his stuff.

Hey forty, here's the fix for when the freq counter tweak out:

EDIT: That pic is difficult to see because it turned out so dark, so here's another shot of it lightened up a bit:

It could be needing an alignment. Sounds like the 7.8MHz signal is not heterodyning with the 34MHz tripler signal. If you look at the input for the counter, you'll see two input lines. One connects to the board near the PLL, the other connects to the board near the balanced modulator (middle right of the board). The PLL line is 34MHz off of TP1 while the other line is the 7.8MHz line. The frequency counter mixes these to obtain the proper readout. If the counter is not correctly aligned (these can go off over time), realigning them might work. If you pull the top off of the frequency counter, you will see two cans and a variable trim capacitor. The trim capacitor is for calibrating the counter, while the cans are for aligning it. If you use a plastic adjustment tool, you can make minor adjustments to the cans to see if the counter comes back.

There's a more proper way of doing this and it involves a scope, but this should actually be enough to get it right again. Calibrate the counter with a known calibrated external counter, TX on channel 1 26.965 AM, dynamike OFF, dummy load connected to antenna jack.

Again, I'd have the alignment checked, but in your case, have the alignment on the PLL checked as well. Does anyone complain about you transmitting off frequency? Is the clarifier unlocked?

no it seems to TX & RX on freq. & clarifier is not unlocked but i would like to unlock it to get a couple of freqs. i talk on that i can't get with just the channel mod. seems like the 148's Grant XL's & cobra 2000's need to have the clarifier unlocked to get like 275150 and a couple others. but this counter problem is a B*T*H. when i go above 40 on SSB
