PL259 Connector Diameter

#180228

Post by this_is_nascar »

I'm in the process of building a rinky-dink base station setup, which will include an Imax-2000 antenna, connected with PL259 connectors and RG-8/U coax. I ordered 50' of pre-made cable/ends. My installation requires me to get the coax from the outside of the house to the inside (bet that's the 1st time anyone has tried that, huh?). Anyway, I'm going to achieve this by drilling a hole through the wall, from the inside to the outside. I want the hole as small as possible, but still be able to get the coax, with the ends already attached, through the hole in the wall.

I'm expecting that I can go to Lowes and get a 12" or so long drill bit, but what diameter should I get?

About the size of a quarter!! Don't hit any electrical wiring or pipes that might be in that wall!! That could get ugly really quick!! You could cut one end off and re solder it when you get the coax thru the wall the hole would be much smaller then about the size of a dime would do!!

5/8" bit for PL259. 3/8" bit for RG8.

To have smallest hole in the wall = remove PL-259.

Thanks everyone. Much appreciate it. Fortunately, that wall has no pluming and/or electrical going through it, I'm sure.
