Setting up a base...need suggestions

Well...Where do I start?

Never had a base and I'm in the process of acquiring all associated equipment/accessories. All of my radio enjoyment has come from mobile units running up and down the road in my diesel wagon. Looking for LARGE QUALITY audio. Ill list what I currently have/want and you folks can hopefully let me know what I need.

Radio: Using a Galaxy 33 until funds become available for dedicated base unit
Power: Iota 90 amp power supply
Amps: Choice of 2- 1. Worldwide 2x4(2290,2879) 2. Elkin 12 tube w/ spare set of new tubes
Tower: 55" free standing on the ground waiting to be cleaned/painted/raised
Coax: 100' unknown mfg. Diameter as large as little finger. Checked good with meter. Came w/tower
Antenna: Plan on Maco 5000.. Waiting on tower cleanup B4 purchase

Well that's about it. Look this over and fire away. Open at this point to any suggestions from folks that have been at this for a while. Don't be bashful. I have thick skin and not easily offended.

Thanks all,
Dan

BTW

Not really interested in beams. Most of my transmissions will be local and don't want the hassle of rotators and the "wait a minute til I point my beams toward you" stuff. Since I'm surrounded by folks Ill be contacting, a set of beams would look a helicopter trying to keep up!

Wow!

I thought there would be at least a few opinions on this set-up. Everyone must still be out.

Really curious as to which amp most folks would use. 12 tubes vs 4 pills. The Elkin is supposed to have killer modulation. The WW will probably have the peak watts however.
What do Y'all think???

GET THE 12 TUBE!!!!!!

The pill box will show more peak power but the Elkin will smoke it all to hell when it comes to big audio and loud ( but not distorted ) modulation!! Want prof? I have a friend that lives up on a small mountain who uses a 2x4 pill ( 2/2290's. 4/2879's ) base amp and another who lives down in the Vally ( both around 10 miles from me ) who runs a 12 tube Elkin. Both use a moonraker 4 and both are 70 feet up and both use a Galaxy 2517 base. If they key at the same time the Elkin will stomp all over thre pill amp any day of the week! Heck he has even talked on the bowl using nothing but the 12 tube many times.

Tell you something else. He also has a big Henry base amp. I think its a 2K. It has two 500Z tubes in it, it is one of the big floor models. With a little 4 tube elkin driving the Henry he sees around 2500+ pep watts and the 12 tube Elkin ( by it's self ) he is only seeing right at a 1000 pep watts from it. When he is talking you cant tell the Henry amp from the 12 tube elkin unless he tells you he has switched. Thats how good the 12 tube sounds!

I shat you not!!!

I dont know how much you will have to spend for it but know this. Ray Phelps in Elkin is getting $750.00 to $1000.00 for a 12 tube Elkin depending on the age and condition of the amp. If it has a chrome strip across the top of it then it is most likely one of the older ones and is worth more. No chrome then it one of the newer ones and he stoped making them in the late 70's. So if its nice and you can get it less then that then hell yes jump on it!!!!

Thanks for the reply.

I already have the Elkin. It came with a complete set of new tubes. I also have the WW 2x4. My decision is which one to use. I really want to use the Elkin.
BTW, only gave 400.00 for the box and tubes. My CB man was looking out for me!!!
