Got CONNEX 4800..now need help!

Hello everybody. I am a complete newb and boob to the radio world.

In Oct. 2005 I had an opportunity with my company to move into the trucking division. I had never even seen the inside of one before. After my training, I realized very quickly how important communications were. I needed information on directions, weather, traffic, detours, dummies, drunks, or just a friend to keep me awake. I rushed right out, bought a Uniden PC78XL. and had it hot rodded by the best tech in the DFW area. Well since then, you can guess, I heard the clarity of other drivers punching through like they were riding in the seat next to me.

That’s what I wanted! To be heard clear and proud. My mission was to do plenty of research and find a radio in a decent price range that would be fun yet do the job I needed to get from point A to point B and back.

My mission paid off….thus comes the Connex 4800. Now I am totally lost on all the functions and benefits this radio has to offer. In the next few weeks I’d like to ask a ton of questions (knob by knob, button by button) and hopefully get a ton of answers. It looks like I came to the right forum!

Let’s start with this one.

Q: What is the +10KHz button for and how do I use it?

A: the 10k button/switch will put ya in between normal channel.. every so often thru the band they skip a freq.. 3-7-11-15-19 I think are the ones skipped.. you can go to them channels flip the switch and be inbeteween the channels.... hidden channel,

hope this makes since..

Q: Should I leave the the power switch on low most of the time? If not, why is there a HI/LO switch anyway?

Ok..I have a pretty good understanding of USB and LSB. A friend and I tried it at about 2 miles apart. It sounded horrible!

Q: When would I use USB or LSB and are there certain frequencies that it is used on?

New Q: What is a good setting for the echo and delay? For now I have the echo at 9 o'clock (<) and the delay at 12 o'clock (^).

Your radio should have talk back. You can turn it on to listen to how you sound and set your echo to how you like it.

AS FAR AS THE USB AND LSB WHEN YOU ARE ON USB OR LSB YOU HAVE TO USE THE CLARIFIER KNOB TO TUNE IN THE PERSON YOU ARE TALKING TO. IF YOU TUNE THEM IN THEY WILL BE AS CLEAR AS AM.

Yes, the person you are talking to needs to be on the same sideband.
