I ordered a Maco V58 to replace my Shakespeare NBS-2010. I should have it this Friday...
Anyone have any upgrade tips or tricks to do while assembling this thing?
Is there a difference between the wire gauge from the feed point to the PL-259 between the V58 and the V5000?
I understand that using Stainless Steel hardware and clamps is better than using the supplied stell stuff as well, so I plan on doing that too.
Any thing else I should know?
Thanks

I just put mine up this weekend and it was a breeze Don't know how you plan on going about it tho...
I set up the antenna then I put up my mast and ran my coax on the ground to make sure I had enough then I put it on a pole about 10 feet off the ground mounted the antenna to set my SWR's got them 1.1 and 1.3 the trick to it is to move the lil wire around the ring little by little till you get the SWR's down just make sure you get the antenna marked where they say to then install all the pecices like they say and you should get them down low then I lefted it up on the mast and when i got done I rechecked the SWR"S and was good to go 35 feet in the air to the top of the mast and about 47 to the tip of the antenna if you run into any problems shot me a pm I'm on here throughout the day everyday HOPE THIS HELPS

Install rope inside the aluminum tubing to reduce oscillation in the wind as recommended in the MaCo assembly manual. Wind oscillation will induce stress cracks over time. This will increase the overall life of the antenna. Install a balun if you plan to run power. This will keep rf off your coax shield. If you have neighbours you might think about using some flat light grey paint on the antenna. That shiny aluminum looks cool only for a short while then you sort of want the antenna to be less obvious.
I really get good use out of mine all the way from 12 meters to above 10 meters.
