A-99 vs. Imax 2000
I'm going to be putting a vertical up in a 85' pine out behind my shack. I've got an A-99 and an Max 2000. I've used them both and have no complaints with either. When they were used, they were only about 30 feet off of the ground, so I'm hoping the added height will improve conditions. The locals run both of them and I really can't tell any significant difference in the signal difference of the two. They both sound fine to me. Based on ya'lls experience, which one gets better reports/ sounds better on receive? I'd like to leave the "power-handling" capability out of the question because I will never run enough power on 11 meters to max out either of the verticals. Thanks for the input!

The most common problem I've heard of locally with the Imax is with the top section. There have been several cases where the threaded end has been stripped off during assembly. They say it's easy to twist off. I've always been extra careful with mine and haven't run into that problem. I'm just going to put some lock-tite on it and snug it down. The A-99 does seem slightly more rigid during strong winds.djrebel236 wrote:i have had problems with the imax, i think the A99 is a better antenna....Dj

Make sure you use a lock washer in between each joint, I replaced the original came in the bag with thicker washer I got from the auto parts store to prevent the thread portion from bottoming out.Slim Jim wrote:

I've been running an A-99 for a while and have no complaints except I would like the receive to be a little better. But over all its handled strong winds very well, holds a great match, and talks DX well.
I have been thinking about getting an IMAX just to try it out but I have heard locally that people have had issues with it breaking in high winds. Is this true??
