OK....My first radio problem
OK....My first radio problem
I just picked up a Titan II Rpsy 485 export radio. I pulled a diode to open it up for 11 meters. It worked fine for a couple of days, then $h!t its pants.
The signal meter display is pegged at +30 (where it normally is during TX, but the TX indicator is not on), and does not appear to be RX any signal. It gets pretty toasty after about 3-4 minutes. I swapped mics with my HTX-10 and no change.
any ideas??

It's a single final version of the Magnum 257. There are several radios that share the same guts. The RPSY 485, Albrecht 485, Dragon SS485, Scorpion 400, Blackhawk II, and lastly the Radio Shack HTX-10.
All, with the exception of the HTX-10, can be mod'd by pulling the "D2" diode. It is a easy mod and well documented since 2001. Due to problems with the FCC the RS HTX-10 lacks the diode and is thus considered to be un-mod'able for 11-meter use.
I pulled the diode and it worked great for about 3 days. I was just sitting in traffic and........ssssssssttttttt. It came up over the squelch and stayed there. I'm not too far from Clay's Radio Shop so I may run it out there this weekend.
