Help a newbie out with a few choices!!!
Well you may have read a few of my posts about needing some help with my Cobra 29. After thinking about it since I got this radio for free I may just ebay it and get myself into a better radio to start out with since I am basically going to start over anyways. So question is, What is a good starter radio that I won't be dissapointed with? I am thinking General Lee. Anyone have any comments on that radio. Also what type of co-phase coax and antennas should I get. Not sure if I would be interested in getting into an amp or not but if I did what would I want to look for? I am trying to set a budget for 5-600 dollars. So basically what would be the good setup for me. TIA [/img]
While I dont own one, there is enough information and people here with then to ignore the obvious. The General Lee is a great radio, and with the services provided by [Please login or register to view this link] known as the superwackpack and super recieve you will have a radio that you will be proud of.
You can pm Mr Radio Active about pricing.
As for antennas, the predator 10K seems to be the way to go. There was a thread here about not using 2 antennas but using the one on the passenger side as an active antenna because of the broadcast pattern. Using 2 antennas limits the overall range if I understood correctly. Using the passenger side directs the main force forward and left giving you better cross highway communications. You could use the other just for looks.
Performance wise, The Dave Made line of amps is the king of the hill, but with the General Lee, you may not want or need an amp.

even if you don't hook the other antenna up, if you have it on there, ESPECIALLY if they're about 1/4 wave apart, it will act as a reflector, and you don't want that. RG59 I believe is the co-phase coax, but don't bother.
radioactive is supposed to sell some high quality coax, and I personally trust that business.
as for everything else, I agree with all of the above.
