Can i join two pieces of coax together without effecting my signal. What i need is 120 foot of coax to get from my antenna to my base.I all ready have a fifty five foot piece and would like to use it if i could.I was thinking as long as i use a barrel connector and Teflon tape that i would be ok...is this right? Not sure if it matters but the coax is not mini 8,its bigger but I'm not sure what it is.
Any time you use a splice you will have problems. Corosion, connection, moisture and the connection will not be shielded the same as the cable. Now, non of this may happen but it can cause problems. Allways best to use one piece of cable.
For what it's worth, I have seen double male ended PL259 connectors for this purpose. I don't know if they will affect performance. I'm sure any of our site sponsors could set you up.
I had to patch together several pieces of coax to run out from my base to my antenna, and instead of using connectors, I soldered and used heat shrink tubing. I also made sure the whole run was measured out in 3-foot increments, and my swr's are sitting at a solid 1
My luck if I did that, my radio would burn to the ground, The power company would report a surge and double charge me for the month and my insurence would probibly drop me !
