What about my Connex 4600 Turbo?

#195047

Post by Six Liter »

Heard a lot of good about mike at RA....jus wondering about my 4600 Turbo....been using it to loaf an 8 pill. I have been thinking about calling him and talking about SWP. Is this somthing I would be happy with? Some of my friends run SWP General Lee's and they sound great, but I've never heard a modded 4600 Turbo.

Not sure what the 4600 would sound like, but from what I know of RA I would think #1) it would sound great and #2) RA wont BS you about how it should sound and cost to do it.

To be honest, a 4600 Turbo pushing an 8-pill probably does all you could possibly need without tuning the radio itself for a few more watts. I'd save my money.

maybe if you were buying it new from RA and had to pay shipping anyway, then it may be worth while.

I ran 2 SWP radios from RA last year, a SWP general lee in my truck, and a SWP Stryker 440, and they both sounded awesome! I am actually buying a SWP 4600 Turbo from RA in a few weeks, I can let you know what it sounds like when i get it. I could imagine its gonna be an awesome sounding radio. I honestly do not buy any radios from anywhere else. Now, i agree, if you're running an 8 pill, wow, just run that...

That would be awsome to hear from some of u guys who are running these radios no doubt. I was jus wondering if I would see enough differance in pep watts to justify it. I'm running stock alternator-135 amp I think- with two redtop batts in my F250 diesel. I know thers probaly a substantial voltage drop, but I'm seeing a 40 watt dk on radio and 175 watt pep. 8 pill dk is 350 to 400 watts and 800 to 900 pep.Its working no doubt but my alternator don't like it. Maybe I should upgrade electrical first???

I would upgrade the alternator and just keep the radio as is. You don't need the SWP, if you are runnin a box

Well........good advice,thanx...just was kinda hopin to see more than 800 pep out of an 8 pill. Probably an upgrade on alternator, and mabe another batt would do it.

That 8 is coasting(itching for more) off your '135'. I would add an (extra) alternator and a
battery or two.

Even if you upgrade your vehicle to a 200 amp alternator, you'll probably not max
that 8 out, given the vehicle draw/ the radio draw/ and the 8 pill draw.

You've got the stuff, now peak it up!

My opinion, to which I'm richly entitled, hmmm? 8)

Merry Christmas!

I'm PRO-RA and love his radios. I have owned many of them and own one now. Nothing but great reports from everyone, and it does great with loud clear modulation.

Here's my deal though. If you're running 800w, then you would need to triple or quadrupal your output power to puck up any S-units on the receiving end of the transmission. Not much use in doing much more than what you are doing now. If you were to pump it up to 1600w, it still wouldn't make much more effect other than maybe fighting with someone that is running 1200w.

10-4 on that Linx, I believe a lot of CBers get so caught up in the power deal that they lose perspective. The first jump from a little 4 watts to whatever, 100w, 500w, or 2000w, is the best, after that the gains seem very hard to make and/or don't seem so impressive.

I have a Turbo 4600 that I bought from Sparky's and it's one of the best AM radios that I have ever owned.
It has awesome Modulation and I will be using it to drive a Gator 4 pill from zmzn350.
I don't know if you need a SWP but this thing strokes and the receive is great, one fine AM radio!
