Mfj 299 desktop mic wired for cb
Has anybody tried to wire a Mfj-299 desktop with equilizer ham microphone to work with a four plug pin(galaxy , cobra ) ? Is it possible to do? I am sure some of the functions of the mic would not be compatible. Is there a cb desktop microphone out there that has an equalizer installed with it?
Thanks

I've eyed that mic in the catalog myself it looks nice. On the eq topic, I think there are a few forum members that run their audio through eq's and do it by interrupting the audio circuit going into the radio. I've done it myself years ago and it is amazing how much you can change your sound with a setup like that, and it does give you more knobs to play with, and everyone likes knobs. -drdx

I'm not up to speed these days on it, and I'm sure others will chime in, but back in the early to mid 80's we would run radio shack cheapo eq's and reverbs on jacks that we installed in the radio. I've even ran special effects gear that is designed for use with electric guitars. Some guys would interrupt the audio in the base of a base microphone instead of going into the radio. That way, the mic and audio could be used from radio to radio. I found a $3 nice microphone mixer with digital echo at the local thrift store, the kind to be used for a karaoke deal, that I plan to play with one day. I'm not a big echo guy but the kids might like it. -drdx

It can be done - I had a Pryme PMC200 (same mic) wired to my 2000gtl at one time. Do you know which mic cord (Icom/Kenwood/Yaesu) you have? Look at the configuration for your particular mic cord, then transfer the shield to pin 1, the audio (audio +) to pin 2 and the tx line to pin 3. The rx wire is not needed since the radio receives without the mic being connected.

Re: Mfj 299 desktop mic wired for cb
Any updates on this? I'd like to wire one up for and old school 148 GTL 5 pin.
I have a wiring diagram for the mic but I can not upload it and the terms are different than what is used for CB so it's kind of confusing.

When you order the mic it really doesn't matter what cord comes with it because you will remove it and replace it with a 5pin plug, save the 8pin just in case you sell it or want to hook it back up for a ham radio. The cords are MFJ-5397(I=Icom, K=Kenwood, Y=Yeasu, MX=module plug). The instructions and schematic for the mic can be downloaded off the MFJ website. As far as the mic works, can't tell you , don't have one, been thinking about getting one to help with the clutter on my desk since I could use it for 3 radios.

Depending on which cord you have note the pin number and color on the 8pin plug before you remove it. You won't need the +8v power or the frequency switching. Now just use the wires needed on the 5pin plug, I can't say what color wire to what pin number because I don't have the cord in front of me.

I'm running a Mfj hamProAudio EQ on my Galaxy Saturn. It was pretty easy to set up. Run the audio through the EQ and the key up on a separate switch.

As for running that mic...all you have to do is read the pinout. A friend of mine ordered one of these and said he was not happy with the performance of the EQ. He did get it to work on his 148 gtl though.
