The difference between "Loud & Clear" vs. Blar

Does anyone else find that a good radio can be giving a crystal clear "S9" while an overmodulated "tight" radio can give an "S3", and some people will say that the overmodulating "tight" radio is louder and better because it has that blaring sound?

Not sure I understand the question. But I personally prefer good clean, crisp, and loud mod. Raspy overmodulated radios do nothing for me...never have either. If it isn't pleasant to listen to, I typically don't listen. Radios that have just over or at 100% mod tend to sound great at pretty much any S-unit IMO.

Just my $.02

I'm finding out that the guys that got me into radio, apparently like the blary sound. While I am learning how to keep my radio set up right, they have been nudging me toward higher and higher settings and the RK 56 mic instead of the Astatic 575M6.

I was just wondering if other people have experienced people who want the blary sound?

I ended up talking to a different group this morning that got me to turn it down a bit, to the point that they said it sounded perfect and clean, and still very loud.
They were amazed at how good it sounded, for being a mobile, while still delivering 350 watts.
