#201773

Post by Becker »

Does anyone here happen to drive a 01+ ford ranger? Or has anyone installed a radio in said truck? I recently bought one and I can't find a good spot to put my 929. It's driving me nutters.

Thanks

I'm not really sold on hump mounts. What kind of pedestal are you using?

check out RAM-MOUNT

I was in the same situation in my truck. finally after two years of thinking about how to mount it, it clicked.

i mounted it to the floor on the hump but up towards the dash. with the arm it brings it up almost like it was bolted to the dash. its hard to explain but it worked really well.

here is a link to a similar mount that i used:

Do you have the hard plastic cupholder between the 60/40 bench seat? If so, I would mount there. Some rangers have it, and some don't. My brother has a 01 and his has it. On the older rangers, you could just mount the radio where the ash tray is, but on the trucks in your category, I think that is where Ford mounted the airbag cutoff switch.

Having a similar problem with my 03 GMC Sierra. The problem is it's a manual transmission.

I think I may have found a way to mount it on the ceiling without cutting the headliner. I think I can take a piece of sheetmetal and make it fit under the little clips that the sun visor snaps into. Run the sheetmetal between the 2 clips and bolt the radio bracket to the the piece of sheet. I know it's gonna be a **Censored** to run the coax and power to it though...

I'm not too sure what style truck you have (ext. cab or reg.) but I had a cobra 19 mounted on the passenger side of the hump in the floor facing kind of up and to the drivers side...I know, hard to explain. also my buddy mad a bracket for his 02 ranger ext. cab that bolts into the driver side door clasp (for the suicide door) and the radio sits just above and behind his head...yes I know not as practical, that what I thought, but he still has full axcess to chance channels and his dash and forward section of his truck is all open....that door clasp is a great ground, going directly to the body. I also had my 19 mounted to the back of the cab on the passenger side facing me. that worked well but was a pain to change channels.

Mine was velcro mounted vertically, on the side of the center floor console, on the passenger's side. It worked well and that's how it's mounted in my Tacoma too.

I had a 00 ranger xlt supercab and I took the cup holder that was mounted to the floor right below the dash out. Mounted radio to the bottom of the dash there. It was a clean install and easy to hide the wires and coax behind dash with minimal work. if you have the cup holder and cant figure out how to remove it, take the inserts out of the cupholder by pulling hard (they snap out) then take a pocket knife or flat head screwdriver and take out the foam disks that sit in the bottom out, there you will see the 2 cam locks that hold it to the floor. that will give you the room to put it in all nice and neat and it will be out of the way too.
