SWR with Wilson 1000 Trunk Lip

Guys,
Finally got me a Wilson 1000 Trunk Lip Mount antenna today! I have the SWR's at 1.3 on Channel 19. I know I could get lower, but I'm scared I'll screw it up. I can live with 1.3 huh? Thanks!

If you have the whip all the way down inside the mount and need to shorten it, cut off 1/4" at a time. I had to cut off over an inch of my Wilson 5000 whip to get the SWR's flat from channels 1 to 40.

I have it like 1.2 Ch. 1 , 1.3 Ch 19 and 1.6 Ch 40. I need to shorten it more, huh?

Try to get it below 1.3 on all channels. If the whip is all the way in already, cut off a 1/4 inch each time until you get it low enough.

When 40 is higher then 1 your antenna is too long! Start a cuttin! LOL

Get some bolt cutters to do it. I ruined three hacksaw blades. Those whips are tough! My hand was killing me by the time if finished.

Yes, cut a little more, but also experiment with stopping a little short of running the whip all the way into the base. I had good luck pulling it about 1/16" to 1/8" off the bottom. When ch 1 and ch 40 are nearly equal, STOP!

Easy to cut, especially if your cheating!, but it's very hard to grow it back.
Don't expect much better than 1.2, especially with that antenna and location. I'm surprised you got it that low.

I am very pleased with it and decided to leave it be. One more thing, I noticed with this taller antenna that I hear intereference from power lines above. I never noticed this before I got a taller antenna. One will assume it's normal.

Hearing Power Lines is normal, I'd call that an improvement. If it's to bad RF gain can be adjusted down. I think your in business!

A peak and tune from a good tech, if you haven't already, is a big bang for the buck improvement. An aftermarket mic will usually improve on clarity. Astatic 636L (clear), RK 56 (deep and powerful) be careful of the rest, ask for help before buying.

If your happy with your setup as it is, you have done what I couldn't do, your talking to the same people for a lot less money!

Man, I love this setup I have. It's a Uniden PC68Xl that I just had tuned up yesterday and I also just put my Wilson 1000 trunk lip antenna on yesterday. I'm out about $180 which I consider cheap and it's just what I wanted. I sure do appreciate everyone's help with my questions. Happy CB'ing!!
