A-99 Or Imax 2000

I need help making my decision it is going to be ontop of one of them 35 ft expandable pole right next to a 2 story house and we get a decent amount of wind money really isnt an object seeing there is only like 30 dollars difference. Is there any other antennas 100 and under that will outperform them or anything?

I dont know about other antennas but I had the same questions about the a99 and imax. Listening to ppl here and the advise I recieved I bought the A99. I am happy with the decision. It was cheeper, The swr out of the box was below 1, I recieve great and everyone says I get out great. I couldnt ask for more, was a great bang for my buck.

I have the A-99 but I'm tempted to get the Imax 2000 just to see how it compares.

The imax seems like it takes wind better to ive been reading reviews and i seen a few people complainin the top section breaks on the a-99. We get a decent amount of wind around here i think i found a winner Thanks Yall.

Now see, what I was told is the imax top section is weak and not good for high winds. My A99 top section was almost as thick as the middle and felt strong. Dont have any hands on with the imax but based on what I heard ...........

I have been told the ground plane kit dont make much difference but I never tried it personally. as far as the top section of the a-99 breaking off a local here had it happen due to his antenna falling and hitting a tree not from wind just poor mast mounting but he took a 102" steel whip and screwed it in the top of the a-99 and swr perfect and i bet that wont break if it falls or wind gets high

Been working on getting my first piece of mast in the ground. The A-99's base is going to be about a foot above the last course of brick from what i got right now tell me what yall think. Thanks

I think if you continue to support it like that going up, it should be fine. Using only those 2 will spell trouble. And if the antron is only a foot or so above the roof line, don't bother with the ground plane kit. You likely won't have enough room.

I've run the A99 with both the ground plane and not. I personally prefer the ground plane kit. It helps on the long distance stuff and is totally unnoticable with the more local contacts.

Just my $.02

I read this thread. Funny, Ive always heard the opposite, the A99 was stronger then the Imax 2000s top section. Personally Ive had both, and neither ever broke. I take some HUGE winds and still never had any issues with either.

Both antennas are good. The GPK kit does help with TVI, and long distance contacts. How much? Alittle, but every little bit helps. I have a customer in FL, who uses a ham radio I built him. He had TVi issues until he put a gpk kit on his A-99.

I am a owner of the A99...its superb in performance..it outdoes a alumnium antenna by Db gain...i have mine about 10 foot off the ground on a 50 foot sloped hill...i talk around 20 miles barefooted using a small Cobra 19 Plus...i have no Ground plane kit..but i made wire radials that go exactly the length of 102 inches...into North, east, south ,west...using insulators at the ends before earth....and i added 1 6 foot Copper ground into Earth at the base of the mast pole...i used 30 foot of RG8U Coax...i hear everything all over well...i even banged the top of the ANtron 99 into a tree limb before i got it steady into the hole...but it never broke anything...i spray painted it Laquer white before setting it up...with the rings near center it Talks very well....
