Just bought a Ranger 6900F150 and was wondering if anybody can explaon how the automatic swr circuit works on the radio? My swr is a little high but if I inderstand it the radio compensates for it. Am I right?

As far as I've seen, that's not how it works.

Some radios have a built in function for checking SWR. On many radios you have to calibrate the SWR meter. The automatic SWR circuit just automatically calibrates the meter when the radio is put in SWR mode.

I know on my 2950, to check SWR just press the SWR button and key up the radio. The SWR will be shown as bars on one side, sort of like when you're just normally transmitting, except you DON'T want full bars. The fewer bars, the better your SWR. This is no replacement for a decent meter though!

The automatic swr means simply you dont need to calibrate the meter to check swr. Remember the old weight scales. They had a little knob on top to calibrate or zero out the meter. Then you stepped on it. Modern scales when you step on them dont have the knob, they display 0 then your weight.
Your radio just doesnt have the calibrate type of meter in it. Hit swr, key the mic, and wa-la it displays your SWR. Radios dont adjust swrs (at least in the cb world)
