the fuse thats right for me

i am really not sure about how exactly this works so here is the question. i am running a cobra 29 classic peaked and tuned and the upgraded finals kit. i thought that in order to better power this unit i would need larger wire and also a bigger fuse, is that right. i currently have run 10 gage wire but only a 3 amp fuse. is this right or should i go with a bigger fuse in order to allow the radio to receive more power?

If you are currently running your radio on a 3 amp fuse, and it's working, then a 3 amp fuse is fine. The 10 gauge wire is really more than you need.

If the radio were trying to draw more power than what the 3 amp fuse will allow, the fuse would have blown by now. It would have blown the first time you keyed up your mic. Hope this helps.

You are definitely going to have to use a higher rated fuse for your amp. The output of the amp will determine how large a fuse to use and what gauge wire to use. One thing you will most certainly need to do is connect the amp directly to the battery, rather than the fuse box. How big an amp are you planning on using?

Pretty interesting topic because I had a Galaxy 33 hml with a Astatic 1K antenna and the fuse was 10amp but when I changed my antenna to a browning br-54 and key up over 5 secs the fuse would blow so I had to change fuses now I dont have that problem

well not real sure which amp i am going to use. I have been given 2 amps of which i have never heard of before. a killer 200 and a pride 100 bi-linear 2 pill

i figure the amp should be getting around 65-70 watts so i figured i would wire my set up now with big enough wire so not to do it again later i am really worried about my fuses, don't want to go to big but not to small as to keep blowin them.
