I have an old 1987 S10 4x4 that I am putting a CB in. Where should I mount the radio? To the underside of the plastic shelf under the dash? The radio I have right now is JC Penny but I am looking to upgrade that soon. I hooked the radio up earlier with a lighter plug in adapter and got a lot of motor noise. Is that from the lighter plug? Will it stop if I wire it to the battery? I am using a Wilson 5000 on a 3 magnet mount on the top of the cab right now. Would a 102" whip mounted to the side of the bed be a better choice? Sorry I asked so many questions, I just moved here and have not found a CB shop to bug.
Thanks 213 in MO

First off welcome!
Next you need to ditch that JC penny and gt you a radio that you can afford Cobra 29's make great starting radios and tend to be very reliable. If your looking for bigger then maybe Galaxy or connex.
Secound, that wilson will do very well, but i am a stroing believer and user of the 102" and stand by it, really helps recieve and get out a little better. if you can just mount that 102 on that tri mag you got and you are set, just get a spring.
About the powering of the radio, going straight to the battery will cut out aalot if not ALL noise from the alternatora nd such. Next you could go to the fuse box that will be better then the cig lighter and will tuck wires cleanly away. The cig is just for people who will be putting there radio in and out.
Any other questions just post, thats what we are here forr.

Thanks Cain. I am going to get another radio, just have to find a shop to buy one. I live in a small town in North Central MO and have not found a shop anywhere around here yet. I don't know if I want to trust my luck with Ebay. I am looking to get maybe a Uniden Grant. But I may choose something else. Mount the whip with the spring on the mag mount on the cab top? Will it be steady enough? Will it fall or dent the cab if I hit tree limbs with it?
Thanks
