Mounting ant on Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Questions,

As you may know by now Im getting a Gen Lee SWP w/ 1k wilson roof mount.

Here's my concerns. I've drilled the hole in the roof, as close as possible to center of the SUV as I can. Soo many little numbers on a tape measure!!! Just kidding, I eye-balled it!

My concern is the roof rack thats on it. I was thinking of making a custom mounting plate to get the wilson coil above the rack. Not sure if this is a big deal, but I dont want any unwanted reflection back to the radio via the darn rack......

I was thinking of sandwiching the roof with either 1/16th" aluminum plates or steel for stability of the roof. Then with either studs or blocks mount another plate on top of the, lets call it a roof stabilizer plate RSP, finally mount the Wilson 1k ontop of that to give me clearance over the roof rack. Ground everything, clean tha paint off the top and bottom of the roof and use dielectric grease top and bottom of the RSP's.

Any thoughts welcome

I, too, have a roof rack on my Chevy Minivan. When I had my little Wil up there, it made no difference about the load being level or below the roof rack. I never raised it above the rack and my SWR's were generally 1.3 to 1.4 across the board. Of course, after trimming the little Wil I was able to get it down to 1.3 across the board. But, still, I never raised the load above the level of my rack. I know a Wilson 1k is more powerful (as far as pushing wattage) than the littlw wil but I would imagine the same would hold true. I am not exactly sure, though.

Thats an interisting setup there. You say you already cut a hole in the roof ?

I have / had a Jeep Grand Cherokee and the roof rack comes off with the push of a button. You could try testing with the rack in place then remove it and test again.
