You'll need any antenna built for base operation...Antron, Imax, Maco...to name a few. You can ground it if you want...but keep in mind that will only be for lightning protection and static bleed off. And even then, if your antenna takes a direct hit from lightning nothing will save it. But you want to give the lightning some place to go other than your radio equipment. Get the antenna up in the clear, use good coax and you're pretty much good to go.

Nothing new here, just a different point of view.
You need three things for a base station. A power supply to power the radio. A radio, you have that I assume. And an antenna to radiate a signal. To some ridiculous extent, bigger is better with both power supplies and antennas. In the case of antennas, that 'bigger' also means higher. With power supplies, having a little extra never hurts, not having enough always hurts. Working the 'snot' out of something never works as well as having whatever it is just 'loaf' along. Just a matter of degree there, which is sort of up to you, just don't get too carried away with things, you know?
What's the differences between a 'base' radio and a 'mobile' radio? How it gets power, and the 'complexity' of the radio. 'Base' radios can be more complicated as to controls with no huge problem. A 'mobile' radio ought'a be fairly simple to operate. Most CB radios are sort of 'standardized' as far as 'complexity' goes, so one will typically work just fine in the 'other' environment.
From there, it's up to you. Have fun.
