100 watt lightning arrestor with 400+ watts??????
[b][/b]What will actually happen if you are running 400-600 watts from your rig and you have one of those air gap lightning arrestors in-line that supposedly handles 100 watts. Will it damage the arrestor, the amp, radio or will the signal just pass through with no problem.

You can burn it up. I'm sure the 100w rating however is for 100w RMS and not PEP. Just keep an eye on your SWR's, if you pop it I'm sure they'd go out the roof.

Very typically, it'll let all the 'magic smoke' out of something. Not exactly the best idea in the world.

Let's see...you're using a device designed to handle 100 watts and you're pushing 400+ through it...do the math and you'll have your answer.
On a side note: IMO air gap arrestors are a waste of money. Since lightning is going to follow the path of least resistance it will travel through the coax before jumping the air gap.

Thanks.....I took it out of line. I wasn't sure if it would render the protection function of the air gap arrestor useless but still allow the rf signal to pass unharmed or not. The most concern was about the equipment.
