Ok, Here's my amp area mock-up, almost buttoned up
Here ya go, my current install in progress. All I'm lacking is some cable work. The bigger box is mounted on 3 industrial anti-vibration rubber mounts, the small box directly to the tray. The fusing for the big box is a block on top of the 2 pill, and the 2 pill is fused on its side. I'll test drive it to check for excessive movement and if it moves too much I'll put another rubber mount on it. It feels firm as it is. As you can see, I still have to clean up the debris from the install, but I'll have it all tidy once I'm done. -drdx

Re: Ok, Here's my amp area mock-up, almost buttoned up
Well, I just test drove it, and it moves a little too much. My plan to curb that and keep the cushion of the mounts is to mount an L bracket, a heavy duty 6 inch wide one that I have, on the back side. It has long mounting holes so I can mount it behind and adjust it up to the amp case to where it is snug, and use maybe rubber sheet or simple velcro, the soft half, to act as a stabilizer. It is fine like it is but moves just a hair too much for my taste, but it looks good and beefy. I got tired of taking the box out on welder disconnects and being mad at myself when I wanted to use it out running errands and didn't have it in. Now, with variable power, i can go from 1 watt barefoot to full tilt via a knob and remotes. Now, I just need that 2nd alternator so I can run the driver on the vehicle and volt the big box on its own system and I'll be set for now, until I get some AC money.
Have fun, I'm off to dinner with some snobs from my kids school, yucko. cya

Re: Ok, Here's my amp area mock-up, almost buttoned up
Thanks, the larger one is a 16 pill. I now have it riding right. I put the metal L bracket I had on the outside of it and it rides nicely, with little movement on severe bumps. This is just a street machine, but I wanted to offer some road vibe dampening and this serves that purpose. Now, look away if you have a weak stomach. This ride is garaged daily and at night and out ONLY if I'm out and about, but if you stare long enough through the 5% tint if it is in the sun, you can see the amp. Sooooooo, I think it is about to be camoflauged with automotive vinyl. I'm thinking of applying 5 inch diameter black polka dots to break the pattern of its reflection when looking in.
After almost 2 weeks in there it works fine and the only kink I've ran into is the short #2 wire running from the battery to the fuse block is getting too warm. I'll upgrade that to 2/0 this week as I have a piece laying around. This heat was after some long time keying so probably not an issue, but that's what this is all about- finding and replacing one weak link at a time.
By the way high drive fans, this 16 pill is keying about 1250 with this 2 pill driving it from a 4 watt radio, so yes, these boxes will take massive drive but it is not needed to get decent power. I can cram a pile of wattage in there with my 8 pill but it doesn't do much more for the amount of heat and amp draw, so as usual, I'll remain a "lowdriver" and make up for it with antennas.
