Galaxy 95t2 In a Ranger?

#225362

Post by TheTeZ »

Hey.
I am getting a ranger this week. a 93, 2 wheel drive :-/ and err ... 2. something liter....

My problem is i DO NOT WANT THE RADIO MESSING WITH COMPUTERS OR ANYTHING!!

i dont mind a little bitta junk coming out the speakers.
This ranger is in nice condition and i dont want it to take an early death due to my radio.

I Have a Galaxy 95t2 that desperately needs work done. i REALLY like the features on this radio and have been meaning to get it worked on from pro-tech, (finally have some money he may be seeing it soon) I was wondering what you guys think.... do i need to take extra precautions? or will a solid set up work? You know, Low SWR's Steady Power .... CR*P!!! i just realized the alternator in this things stock and i dont know the size of it? Anyone? and maybe some ground straps...

any suggestions or info would help.

Edit:
*rangers only got a 95amp alternator....*

A '93...I wouldn't worry too much. I had a 94 Ford Ranger with an HR-2510 and never had any problems. Keep the SWR down and you should be fine.

Grounding will the number one consideration. If all is grounded well then you will be good to go.

I can't recall off the top of head but i believe the 95t draws 30 amps peak so you should alright.

Most vehicles are more susceptible to VHF/UHF signals interfering with them. I also had a 1998 Ford Ranger with a Yaesu FT-100 HF mobile...100 watts and the vehicle never flinched when talking on any band.

No not at all. I've run a 98VHP and Connex 4300-400 in my ranger with no issues. The hard part will be finding a place to mount it lol.

Isn't that the truth. I did find a place under the dash to install my HR-2510 in my 94 Ford Ranger...right in the center. But when I got my 98 Ranger, the dash and been redesigned and the 2510 just wouldn't fit no matter what I did.

I sort'a think the hardest part will be figuring out where to mount the radio. At least it has been for me (no, not a Ranger). As far as the alternator, if the max draw (everything in the truck turned on) isn't using up all of that 95 amps, you should be just fine. Sort of. Or, just turn something off?
Interference to the truck? Best advice is to NOT run any cabling near a computer. No idea where the computer/CPU is, so have fun. There are several ways to keep RF out of a computer, they usually seem like a fairly good idea till you start implementing them. Do what you can, then compensate like the devil! Don't ask me, how would I know?
Good luck.

Yep, them little truck just don't have much room for mounting anything.

The 2. something is probably a 2.3 liter 4 cylinder....god engine. Had 2 of them in the Ford Couriers I had. (Courier was the predecessor to the Ranger BTW)
