Found the place that sell Mark IV parts especially the Eprom that is known to go bad. Guess we should check on manuals at that website
Its not a real radio unless it has tubes and USB/LSB on the front panel ....

Well now that we have had radio for a few days we was wondering why we had very low audio output.
Found out the guy had taped the black wire going to the 2 pin battery connector on the Golden Eagle D 104 and it was not making a connection as it was not soldered . Soldered it and used some coax seal to insulate that 2 wire plug to keep it from shorting out.

Now we need to find out why it has 1 watt out on AM and 4 watts ssb as the bias was running way to high and Im sure he burned up a tube.
Anyone know what OUTPUT tube for power output are used on the mark IV . Waiting on a manual that I hope has a schematic with it .
Overall it was just given a great audio report using a ground mounted vertical 15 miles away on channel 19 and the guy was coming in at s6 on the s meter.

The guy told me it sounded like his friends radio  He had a Browning Golden Eagle back then a few years ago.

Did you know it had problems when you bought it? I have done some research on Brownings and I think this is a common thing on eBay of most of them being DOA or having major problems.

Known Issues with the MK4 original resulting in the MK4a
The Mark IV is a 40 channel PLL radio. The original Mark IV had PLL issues and was released as the Mark IVa from the factory after the fix. Kits and upgrades were available for the Mark IV to fix the bad PLL circuit.

No but I sortta assumed something would be wrong  I will say it is very very clean and well almost mint...

Its just like when we bought our 1967 Mustang Convertible to restore 20 years ago we had to rebuild the 289 engine c4 transmission etc
and replace floor boards before it was drivable.... You have to have a solid foundation to work with on these old radios.

OVERALL IM VERY 100% HAPPY WITH THE PURCHASE as we have gotten some very good audio compliments this morning.
Very loud and very clear except for THE SQUEAL when we 1st keyup

{{Talking about 20 miles on a Butternut HF9V Ground mounted vertical with 1 watt on channel 19 AM was amazing.}}

I had it sitting on the shelf a couple days then decided to fire it up. 1st thing we noticed was bias was way out of the range.
It transmits and receives aok its just a low power issue which odds are its a tube or alignment . Very easy stuff to fix these old tube radios
compared to the new mini micro you need a 1 watt soldering iron or burn up the board radios....

I plan on buying a MARK IVA as my play with radio and let the MARK IV just look pretty on the glass shelfing ....
