bringing coax through window?
bringing coax through window?
Is there any tricks to bringing coax through a window the best way...I have a vertically opening window which makes it tougher.

You can find flat coax/window adapters just for this purpose on Ebay and all over the internet. For low power it should work fine but I wouldn't push a lot of power through one.
What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

Re: bringing coax through window?
i was able to cut a small piece of the window frame out with a hacksaw to accomodate the coax....was able to close the window completely and lock it without pinching the coax at all.....worked perfect and the "redneck modification" was hardly noticeable.

I did the same thing on my mobile setup. I took a 1/4" round file and filed down my rear sliding glass window's aluminum rail. Perfect setup, clean coax install and no leaks. People don't even notice it. You could use a round wood file aka rasp to do the same thing to your window sill.BG wrote:i was able to cut a small piece of the window frame out with a hacksaw to accomodate the coax....was able to close the window completely and lock it without pinching the coax at all.....worked perfect and the "redneck modification" was hardly noticeable.

Was running fat boys, Davemade's, and TS's.

Re: bringing coax through window?
Ther are several ways of going about it, as already discussed. What works for me is a board cut to fit the window opening, maybe 6" tall. I've got several bulkhead coax connecters fed trough it and also holes for 'ladder line'. A strip of insulation across the top edge of the board lets the window sash seal just fine. The window won't lock, but considering where it is, I'm just not too worried about someone coming in through it.
This isn't anything 'new' by any means, the idea has been around for a lot of years. If you really want to get 'fancy' it shouldn't be that difficult to make the window 'locking' again.
Those bulkhead connectors are just as capable as a PL-259/SO-239 combination as far as power handling goes.

A buddy of mine who does repairs on radio's he drilled a hole from the outside of the house going in then then ran all his coax and wires through the hole then sealed it off so no air gets through and it works wonders.

Re: bringing coax through window?
I use packing tape on the window and run the coax through this. A heat gun is used to shrink the tape so that it is taut.
