Getting HO alternator help?

#231172

Post by ceg101202 »

I have ordered a HO alternator.
As an upgrade I plan on increasing the wire size between the alternator and the battery to a 4ga.
I don't want to tear into the factory harness.
Can I add an existing wire on top of the wire thats their or should I just remove main charging wire at the alternaotor?
Does this linking wire need to be fused. If so where? Near the Battery?

add onto the harness, just lay another wire from the alt to the battery

no fusing needed
Its CB radio, plug and play technology, its just not that hard folks...

what linearone said. Just add your ring terminal and put right on top of the existing factory wire. If your HO alt is done right, it will have a larger post added to it for this heavier wire and the original small one for the factory wire, atleast that is my experience with HO alts.

Make sure that the ring terminal that you use has EXACTLY the right size hole in it for the output stud of the alternator. If the hole is slightly oversize, it will be source of resistance, and likely overheat the output stud. We send our alternators with the properly sized ring terminal so we know the customer uses the right one. It doesn't hurt to run a dedicated ground cable from the housing of the alternator to the negative terminal of the battery also.
Call us for all your high output alternator and battery needs !!
